"With a new sharpness, Hazel has delved into a sophistication that dynamically blends her previous music to create an oscillation of hard and soft that exudes in her tonality." –CLASH

Today, Los Angeles-based Australian-American artist/songwriter, Hazel English, has released her latest single, "California Dreamin'" – a cover of The Mamas & The Papas 1965 classic.

The track originally appeared as a more intimate demo on the 2020 Polyvinyl benefit compilation Stay Home, and was re-recorded as a follow-up to last year's debut album Wake UP!, which Exclaim! called "a delightful triumph that incites self-discovery and love."

Speaking of the inspiration behind the release, Hazel shares "Ever since I was a kid, I have always really loved the song California Dreamin’ and the way it evokes such nostalgia and bittersweet feelings. For me growing up in Australia, I related to this idea of dreaming of a faraway idyllic place like California and it’s crazy to think that now all these years later, I consider it my home."

On her 2020 full-length debut album, Wake UP!, Hazel English trades the hazy, reverb drenched production styles prevalent in her earlier work for sounds synonymous with classic pop records from the late 60's. English's sharpened sense for songwriting are on full display with timeless pop hooks and addictive melodies.
