Los Angeles, CA – Friday, October 30th, 2020  - Swedish songwriter & spoken word artist Emmanuelle June releases her second full music video “One Of Them Witches” available on YouTube today. The single will be available on all streaming platforms soon. Watch “One Of Them Witches” here

Emmanuelle June’s urgent new track is a dark, satirical, feminist tale of taking back power from a male dominated society. “I wrote the piece about what it’s like to be a female objectified,” says June. “It’s a direct commentary how women are referenced in popular culture throughout the decades. ‘One Of Them Witches’ strikes back at those notions. It is served with a sense of humour, yet I sincerely hope my message is conveyed clearly… ‘don’t ever mess with them witches.’.... [Womxn] are powerful  - we must stand up for ourselves and each other. The vicious cycle of objectification must be halted.” The song was recorded in June’s home studio and mixed by Chris Kahn at EastWest Studios in Hollywood.

In the video, June wears a Venetian mask called ‘La Moretta’ or ‘La Mute’ which was typically worn by females to signal whether or not they wanted to be propositioned by men: a strong and bold visual reference to compliment the message within her lyrics. The video was shot, edited and directed entirely by June. “This was a true quarantine labor of love…” June says. “I’m really ecstatic about how the video came out.”

About Emmanuelle June: Emmanuelle June was born in Sweden and raised predominantly in Stockholm. She completed her undergraduate degree in London and New York where she studied at one of the most prestigious acting schools. She’s been featured in off-Broadway and independent films – having directed and written many such pieces herself. A true creative at heart,  June found her voice whilst performing in a rendition of the Sam Shepard and Patti Smith play, Cowboy Mouth. June reflects, “I had to sing in the character work part to understand the role and her rhythm. I realized that I loved it and remembered singing was what I wanted to do when I was little, but I had suppressed it.” June moved to Los Angeles in 2014 and became more and more engulfed in the music scene, jamming with friends and manifesting lyrics from her poetry. June performed in post-punk and psych rock bands briefly before focusing her energy on her solo career as Emmanuelle June. She has performed at famed Los Angeles locations such as The Hotel Café and Moroccan Lounge with her band at the time, Whisper. She is also a published writer under various nom de plumes with poetry works that were once available at Los Angeles bookstores such as Stories in Echo Park.

Despite the worldwide setbacks of 2020, June has had a productive year. Her debut single and video for “Snake Spit” (available on all platforms since July 26th) received critical praise within the Los Angeles music community. The track was co-produced by June and her friend, Chris Kaz. The daring, experimental single channels the spoken word influence of Patti Smith and the sounds of Nico and The Velvet Underground, Björk and Fiona Apple. The video co-directed by June and Academy Award nominated cinematographer, Seamus McGarvey (Atonement), is a spectacle of light and distorted movements, shot exclusively within the doorframe of a balcony at The Dream Hotel in central Hollywood.

June shows no signs of slowing down going into 2021 with a still untitled EP in the works due this coming winter.
