Daniel Avery will embark on a run of North American dates with Jon Hopkins beginning Wednesday in Chicago before continuing to Toronto, Montreal, Los Angeles and San Francisco. To coincide with this tour, Hopkins has provided a bracing remix of Avery’s “Glitter,” reworking the affecting Song For Alphahighlight into something more physical and brooding. Hopkins adapts the celestial, choral elements of the original track, layering them atop a heavy, almost-meditative bass weight, resulting in a remix that compliments the work of both artists in its unforgiving yet introspective quality. Listen here.

As a taster of what to expect on his tour with Hopkins, Avery has also created an original 50-minute ambient work called “Visible Gravity,” which can be heard now via XLR8R.

Speaking about the new material, he explains, “One of the wonders of DJing for me is to build the atmosphere of the room from the ground up. To draw a line between the people laying on the floor to the opening drones and those climbing the walls during the acid rave hours later. It requires patience and submission from everyone involved but the rewards are great.”

“When asked by Jon to support him on his American tour,” Avery continues, “we talked of ways in which we could make the night work as a whole and, from drawing on my own club experiences, decided that I should play from doors opening until Jon’s first note. I was asked to put together a mix as a demonstration but an idea in my head repeatedly dragged my attention away. A single loop wouldn’t leave my mind and the resulting piece emerged after an intense studio session in London. The piece is an ode to those early and quiet moments in a night where the strobe light is still only a hopeful glimmer beyond the horizon, a sign of the euphoria to follow. I live for those feelings. Love and eternal respect to Kikuta-san.”

Following his tour with Jon Hopkins, Avery will go on to join Nine Inch Nails for further North American dates in October and November. In the midst of these dates, he will return to the UK for a special All Night Long headline show in a new as-yet-disclosed venue in London on November 24 – tickets are available here. The event follows his sold out show at Bethnal Green’s historic York Hall venue in March.

Song For Alpha, Avery’s second album which is out now via Phantasy/Mute in the US and Canada and via Phantasy worldwide, is Avery’s exploration of the space in which home listening and club music intersect. Listen and purchase here.
