One of the world’s perennially underestimated music festivals returns for its 7th annual music extravaganza happening in the heart of downtown Pomona, California at the legendary venue,The Glass House Concert Hall. This years headliners are up and coming indie-rock band Surf Curse hailing from Reno, Nevada and The Marías who will be bringing their soothing indie sounds.
Viva Presents + The Glass House have been paving the way for newer, generational artists that speak both English & Spanish languages. Furthermore, Viva Presents andThe Glass House have continued to provide a platform for rising stars like Chicano Batman, Cuco, Bad Suns,Girlpool, The Frights, Shannon and the Clams along with many more.
Other artists performing this year are Palm; an experimental indie band from Philadelphia who will be bringing their math rock/post punk sounds. Hailing from the Bay Area in Oakland, CA, Still Woozy, will be performing an intimate set. Furthermore, Shannon Shaw, who is the front woman of Shannon and the Clams, will be debuting her solo set at Viva! Pomona for the first time.
On the Spanish speaking side, Girl Ultra will be performing her highly anticipated US festival debut at Viva! Pomona, bringing her smooth Spanish R&B music from Mexico City. In addition, Dromedarios Magicos from Chihuahua Mexico, will be bringing his indie folk sounds to Pomona, CA after recently touring throughout South America. San Pedro el Cortez from Tijuana, Mexico just celebrated their 10th anniversary as a band. The garage rock veterans will be taking the stage at Viva! Pomona for the second time!
La Chamba is a bilingual local artist who performs in both English and Spanish and will be showcasing their talents this year. These Los Angeles natives will be introducing a new generation of music fans to the genre Chicha – Psychedelic music that will guarantee a dance party! The Tracks from East Los Angeles are carrying on the tradition of Richie Valens, bringing infectious bilingual garage sounds to the festival. TEO is another bilingual artist to keep an eye on, after already collaborating with artist Jayden Smith. Furthermore, being part Colombian, he will be bringing a different perspective to the DIY platform.
Viva! Pomona can’t happen without local Pomona, California based musicians as well. This year, The No. 44from Pomona, California will be making their highly anticipated debut at the show. After playing important local venues in the area, it’s finally time for them to join the festival. Jade Moon is another local Pomona, California band who will be performing for the first time. They will be bringing their bilingual indie rock sounds to the festival.
This year Viva! Pomona will also be incorporating a “Zine Village”. A ‘zine’ is a creative short magazine, or fanzine, depicting a variety of topics with words and illustrations that seeks to tell a unique story. Coming from the DIY world of keeping costs affordable and accessible for the community, zines and Viva! Pomona are the perfect marriage. The festival will be curating a Zine Village that features artists from Mexico and the USA. This will hopefully spark a creative bridge between both DIY regions and encourage independent artists to collaborate in the near future. The Zine Village will be the first of its kind.
Viva! Pomona is $25.00 each day and $40.00 for a two-day pass. The festival will be presenting artists across multiple regions and genres. The event is local, all ages and affordable.
