What people are saying about Little Dark Age:
"MGMT have once more delivered an off-kilter, challenging and very addictive album withLittle Dark Age." - AP
"The East Coast psych-pop duo MGMT trades big hooks for stacks of gauzy synths on its fourth album, which nudges the group's sound into the electric bedroom-pop space championed by off-ball auteurs like Ariel Pink and Gary Wilson. You're gonna want this one around when the winter chill subsides." - New York Magazine
"It's packed with apocalyptic synth jams ('Little Dark Age') and-for when all the dust has settled- quaint acoustic gems ('When You Die'). And twinkling standout 'Me and Michael' wouldn't sound out of place in a John Hughes flick." - People Magazine
"The duo's delight in sound itself is often infectious. The album is a riot of vintage synthesizers, dubby effects, and sumptuously gated snares, and they round out that '80s fixation with just the right amount of psych-pop. Flangers flange, phasers phase, and the stereo panning spins like a Tilt-a-Whirl, but for once, the bells and whistles don't drown out the songwriting." -Pitchfork
"Your favorite synth-poppers for the past decade have returned with an exhilarating album that keeps listeners dancing on the tops of their toes." - MTV
"It's been five long years, but the much-anticipated MGMT comeback has reached its apex with the release of their fourth album, and it's a winner." - UPROXX
"You can tell they are having a little bit more fun, and not so much deep in their own heads. It's all the more interesting that it's inspired by the election...Listening to Little Dark Age I can tell they are the same people, but they grew up a little bit" - NPR
"It's a really fun record, and one that still honors MGMT's outsider influences. It's the kind of album that MGMT always seemed destined to make." - Brooklyn Vegan
"'Me and Michael' and 'James' luxuriate in openhearted Eighties-synth romanticism, while the caustically pretty 'When You Die' re-imagines the Mamas & the Papas as cranky black-sunglasses droogies...Other songs, like the bath time-for-Cylons exotica dreamweave 'Days That Got Away,' fuse the zonked interiority of their last two LPs with Oracular's amiable groove-drift." - Rolling Stone
