Lucius have unveiled details of a 10 track acoustic album, NUDES, for release
March 2nd, 2018 on Mom + Pop Music. Recorded in collaboration with
Electric Lady Studios, the release coincides with a highly anticipated acoustic tour which kicks off with three sold out nights at Los Angeles' Largo Theater. The intimate NUDES tour then makes its way around the country, including sold out stops in Boulder, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington DC and New York's
Town Hall on March 22nd, before ending at Big Ears Festival. All tour dates below.
While Lucius' sleek look-a-like soul sisters Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig spent much of 2017 as a dazzling high point of Roger Waters' North American arena-conquering Us + Them tour (which resumes next week in Auckland, New Zealand and continues throughout the year in Australia, Europe and Central and South America), 2018 finds Lucius back together for an intimate, acoustic tour and the release of an accompanying 10-track acoustic album, NUDES. A collection of songs chosen specifically to showcase their soulful, powerful voices and gorgeous harmonies, NUDES includes three brand new songs, four compositions from the band's back catalog, and three covers. The album also features sit-ins from Wilco'sNels Cline (on "Million Dollar Secret") and Pink Floyd legend Roger Waters(on "Goodnight Irene").
Of choosing to record an acoustic album, Jess and Holly say, "Amidst nearly every performance over the past few years, we've had the opportunity to strip away everything - be it at the center of the crowd, or on stage around one microphone, or in tiny, unexpected rooms around the world - all to share and create an intimate, heartfelt connection with our audience. It's these moments that have inspired our newest project, NUDES. Recorded over two days at New York's legendary Electric Lady Studios, NUDES is a collection of acoustic songs: new, from our back catalog - reimagined, and covers we've always wanted to record. It is a record giving homage to what has been...and a hint at what's to come."
NUDES follows Lucius' previous albums Wildewoman (2013) and Good Grief(2016), which built the band a solid fanbase and elicited praise from critics around the world, including The Times of London, who praised their "sunshine-drenched pop" and "vocal harmonies carrying songs rich in melody." Most recently in 2017, the band contributed the song "Million Dollar Secret" (a version of which is included on NUDES) to one of the last episodes of the HBO show Girls and scored the soundtrack to the film Band Aid. Lucius has drawn acclaim for powerful songs showcasing taut hooks, along with their mesmerizing stage presence and bold visual aesthetics. The band have sold out shows, headlined theaters throughout the US and Europe and collaborated with a variety of musicians including The War On Drugs, John Legend, Roger Waters, Mavis Staples, Jeff Tweedy, Nathaniel Rateliff, Lukas Nelson and David Byrne.
