Lucha VaVOOM -- Los Angeles' longest running, most celebrated action-packed variety show, where electrifying Mexican masked wrestling, burlesque and comedy collide -- has announced international electro-pop star and provocateur Peaches will perform during their annual Halloween shows in Los Angeles: Wednesday, October 25 and Thursday, October 26 at The Mayan Theater. Tickets are still available atLuchaVaVOOM.com.
Since the release of her debut album in 2000, Peaches (aka Merrill Nisker) has spread her seed on the pop culture landscape, harnessing a worldwide audience and, along with the countless followers she's inspired, has shaped the mainstream into a more inclusive and sexually progressive surrounding. Over the years, she's built a reputation on her suggestive and intelligent lyrics, her amalgamation of rock and electro sounds and her balls-out performances, continuing to outdo herself with each brash step.
Peaches' performance at Lucha VaVOOM will include one song from RUB (2015), her most recent and best received album of her career, plus a classic track from her catalogue. Taking the stage with Peaches will be Ursulina (aka Lucha VaVOOM's co-founder and performer Rita D'Albert).
This performance marks the second time Lucha VaVOOM's must-be-seen-to-be-believed spectacle has teamed up with the provocative musician-producer-filmmaker-performance artist. For Lucha VaVOOM's 2014 Valentines shows, Peachesperformed as a special guest with her Black Sabbath cover group. In 2015, Lucha VaVOOM was featured in her music video for single "Close Up," (featuring Kim Gordon) that went viral.
Following the two shows in downtown Los Angeles, the debauchery moves to Riverside Municipal Auditorium on Friday, October 27 for the final night of Lucha VaVOOM's three-night Halloween celebration. Doors open at 7:00pm and the show starts at 8:00pm each night.
This year's Halloween celebration will feature Mexican-style lucha libre wrestling(including the high-flying Stuka Jr., hand-picked by Lucha VaVOOM from the professional Mexican wrestling promotions team CMLL; Lucha VaVOOM's newly minted champion Li'l Cholo, evil doctors Medico Asesino and Dr. Maldad, Crazy Chickens, Cannibals, Matt Classic and Matt Classic Jr., sleazy Joey Ryan, Hairy Monsters and Dama Fina, Minis), aerial/burlesque/dance performances (from flying vampire batVeronica Yune, zombie madness Kristina Nekyia, dancing doll Lux Lacroi, and ghostly L.A. Roller Girls), and comedy (Blaine Capatch and Jeff Davis will deliver their insanely off-the-cuff commentary).
About Peaches:
Since the release of her album The Teaches of Peaches (2000), Peaches has gained a reputation as one of today's most provocative and glamorous pop stars. Under the title Peaches Christ Superstar she staged Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical as a one-woman show, and later sang the lead part in a production of a Monteverdi opera. In 2012, she released her first full-length motion picture film Peaches Does Herself, and in 2015 she collaborated on the book of photographs What Else Is In the Teaches of Peaches. At the end of 2015, she released her highly acclaimed fifth studio album, RUB.
RUB not only earned critical praise from press but also earned Peaches kudos from her peers in the entertainment world: From Ellen Page proclaiming, "Peaches is ferocious, relentless, sexy, confident, and gives all of herself to her audience. She is a person who inspires," in NY Times T Style Magazine, to Laverne Cox sharing "Peaches is everything," and in a feature on Peaches in Time Magazine, Amy Schumer said "Peaches is just the sh-t. She's the bravest one of us out there." RUBis an adventurous, audacious musical statement, the latest entry in a conversation Peaches opened up 15 years ago and the world may just now have finally caught up with.
