"Anna Coogan is the most interesting person we know."
- Impose Magazine
"Coogan’s introspective tunes comes from a place where the line between poignant
songwriting and echoey indie rock collides completely."
- Glide Magazine
New York, NY (April 25, 2017) – Employing a three-octave range and the ability to create electric guitar soundscapes and turn them into pointed social commedntary, guitarist Anna Coogan will release her operatic rock album, The Lonely Cry of Space & Time this Friday, April 28. For those who can't wait until then, Anna has given IMPOSE the exclusive first listen along with an extensive Q&A on the album. IMPOSE commends, "Addressing many big political points in a beautiful – and instrumentally colossal – way, we’ve been infatuated with the eleven track stunner since we first pressed 'play' on it."
Essentially a two-person effort, The Lonely Cry of Space & Time features Willy B (Brian Wilson) on drums and Moog bass and Anna on guitar, as well as showing off her vast vocal range. Together, the two were able to combine the personal and political in a musical hybrid of rock, country, pop and classical opera into a unique whole.
There have been many attempts at rock opera in the past, but The Lonely Cry of Space & Time is something different. Call it operatic rock, a genre previously explored by the likes of Kate Bush, Jane Siberry, Lene Lovich, Yoko Ono and Freddie Mercury, among others. Coogan studied opera at the prestigious Mozarteum University of Salzburg in Austria, before moving to Seattle, where she worked as a fisheries biologist in Washington State and Alaska, which goes a long way to explaining her frequent use of water as a metaphor.
