SAM AMIDON TO PLAY MOUNTAIN STAGE, BIG EARS FESTIVAL, PLUS SHOWS WITH STEVE GUNN, NELS CLINE AND MORE REISSUE OF AMIDON’S BUT THIS CHICKEN PROVED FALSEHEARTEDPLANNED
“A folk/bluegrass troubadour from Vermont, who delves into shape-note traditions and Appalachian ballads and makes it all beguilingly his own. His guitar lines have the fancy fingerwork of a crack banjo player and his banjo lines have the tugging suspensions of a jazzer.” – The Guardian
Imaginative, unconventional singer and musician Sam Amidon makes his debut appearance at West Virginia’s famed Mountain Stage on March 22 and in the lineup of the genre-blending Big Ears Festival in Knoxville March 27-29.
Amidon keeps good company on additional spring US tour dates, sharing a bill in Ashville with singer and guitarist Steve Gunn (March 24) and with guitarist Nels Cline and his Stained Radiance project (a collaboration between Cline and painter Norton Wisdom) in Decatur, GA and Carrboro, NC (March 25, 26). In April, Amidon heads to Europe to support Sharon Van Etten and then follows in early May with his own headlining concerts in Europe including one at London’s Islington Assembly Hall on May 10 (tour dates below; additional European headlining shows announced soon).
Amidon’s latest release, Lily-O has earned raves since its late September release on Nonesuch Records. Hailed as “hauntingly beautiful” by The New York Times, “… Lily-O somehow feels deeply reassuring… his highly personal approach opens a window on the American past and lets us feel it like nothing else around.” – NPR
Later this year Amidon re-issues his 2006 release But This Chicken Proved Falsehearted. The long out of print re-issue will feature several previously unreleased bonus tracks and be available for the first time on vinyl. It will also be available as a digital download. Further details will be announced soon through Amidon’s newly-designed website, samamidon.com.
