Hooverphonic 'Harmless Shapes' First Listen
Change and innovation are the norm for Belgian trio Hooverphonic. Originating as a trip hop quartet in 1995, they quickly became peers with Massive Attack, Thievery Corporation, Moloko, and Morcheeba, helping define electronica toward the late '90s. In 1996, famed Italian director Bernardo Bertolluci featured their hit "2Wicky" on his soundtrack to Stealing Beauty. Since then, they've been featured on several other soundtracks, released eight albums, switched up the line up a couple times, and evolved their sound, adding elements of indie pop, rock, and even orchestras.
Along with their newest singer, Noemi Wolfs, Alex Callier and Raymond Geerts are touring the states this summer, in support of the U.S. release of their album The Night Before, which went triple platinum in Europe. They are also preparing a new album, and crowd- sourcing recording locations. "We're looking for 3 inspiring, acoustically interesting houses to record at!" They have also hooked VIBE up with an exclusive premiere of their new single, 'Harmless Shapes.' You can find more info and the full terms of the contest on their website. The Night Before is out June 4th. Until then, stream the premiere of "Harmless Shapes" below.
