He just shared a new video for single “Comet Loop,” from his debut album The Sundog LP, due this Friday, June 12 via his own Treasured Recordings label. The video was directed by Joseph Bird, Jr (Connan Mockasin) and filmed in the mountains and ravines of Hollywood, CA. In honor of Bill & Ted Day, Orion Pictures has released the official teaser trailer and teaser poster for BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC. The stakes are higher than ever for the time-traveling exploits of William "Bill" S. Preston Esq. (Alex Winter) and Theodore "Ted" Logan (Keanu Reeves). The now middle aged best friends set out on a new adventure to seek the song that will set their world right and bring harmony in the universe, with the helped by their daughters (played by Samara Weaving and Brigette Lundy-Paine), a new batch of historical figures and a few music legends. The film also stars Kid Cudi, Kristen Schaal, Anthony Carrigan, Erinn Hayes, Jayma Mays, Jillian Bell, Holland Taylor, Beck Bennett, William Sadler, Hal Landon Jr. and Amy Stoch.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds have canceled their North American 2020 tour due to the coronavirus pandemic. The band are planning to return to the US and Canada in 2021, details to be announced this Fall.

Steve Earle has released a brand new song, “Times Like These” (Acoustic Version) on the heels of his acclaimed Ghosts of West Virginia. Today, SPIN has premiered the new song which was recorded late last week. They say, "The bare-bones recording, with Earle unaccompanied on acoustic guitar, stresses the urgency of ending the Trump administration...  Its lyrics are sadly evergreen and reflect the problems that the country continues to face today." Hear “Times Like These” Acoustic Version HERE. Speaking to SPIN, Earle said, “This is a song I wrote for a moment at the beginning of the Trumpian nightmare that I planned on releasing closer to the election, but I reckon its time has come today.” The new song will be available for free download via Bandcamp and streaming across digital platforms starting at 2pm Eastern this afternoon. “Times Like These” was originally written at the beginning of the Trump Presidency with Earle intending it for his next studio album. He was then approached by Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen, a playwright team who would create Coal Country, a play with music written and performed by Earle based on the Upper Big Branch coal mine explosion that killed twenty-nine men in West Virginia in 2010. The seven songs he wrote and performed in the play lead his new album Ghosts of West Virginia which the Associated Press has called “one of his best albums,” while Rolling Stone compared it to the best of his early work, calling it “undoubtedly a recharge for Earle.” In their 4 out of 5 Star review, American Songwriter called the album “... one of his most potent ever which, in a career with 20 releases is saying plenty. Ghosts of West Virginia displays once again that Steve Earle is one of America’s most captivating, unvarnished, provocative and talented singer/songwriters.” 

While recording Ghosts of West Virginia at New York City’s legendary Electric Lady Studios, Earle and his band The Dukes recorded a version of “Times Like These.” The full band version of the song will be released as a limited edition 7-inch single on Record Store Day’s special “RSD Drop” on Saturday, August 29th. Its cover art was painted by Steve Earle and can be seen above. 

Earle is also set to appear on the Washington Post Instagram Live series “Stuck with Geoff Edgers” today at 2pm Eastern. He will speak with Edgers for an hour and also play a handful of songs acoustically. Tune in via the Washington Post Official Instagram HERE. 

Opening to critical acclaim on March 3rd at the Public Theater in NYC, Coal Country was cancelled after only two weeks due to COVID-19. Despite its abbreviated run, Earle has received a nomination in the “Outstanding Music in a Play” category for the 65th Annual Drama Desk Awards. Originally scheduled for May 31st, the online ceremony was postponed to June 13th in solidarity with Black Lives Matter protests.

June 9, 2020—Choctaw-American musician and songwriter Samantha Crain debuts new song “Pastime;” listen/share HERE and watch the video HERE. The track is from her forthcoming album, A Small Death, out July 17 via Ramseur Records/Thirty Tigers and Real Kind Records/Communion Records.

The video was direct by Crain herself, who explains “The video was meant to be a celebration of the community of the town I live in, Norman, Oklahoma, as well as a nod to the capture of improvisation. Spontaneity is often forgotten as a great tool and teller of stories and I wanted to have a day of filming the wonderful people in my community remembering and exercising the flustering and freeing practice of ‘just winging it.’”

A Small Death is the first release and artist signing for Real Kind Records, a new record label founded by UK-based musician Lucy Rose. “Samantha Crain is one of the most talented, genuinely inspired artists I've ever come across and to work with her is truly an honour,” Rose says of signing and working with Crain, “...[A Small Death is] such a profound and intelligent album, musically and lyrically. She's poured every inch of herself into her music, into these songs.”

The new record finds the Oklahoma-based artist confronting decades of grief, trauma, and an incapacitating physical pain which left the singer home in bed and barely able to perform or play an instrument. “I didn’t completely die, but I feel like I died a little bit and that allowed me this new beginning,” Crain explains, “What I was trying to capture with this record, really, was a sense of reconstruction.” A Small Death is the sixth studio LP from Crain, following the release of 2017’s You Had Me At Goodbye. She won two NAMMYs (Native American Music Awards) in 2009, the Indigenous Music Award for Best Rock Album in 2019, and has toured with a range of artists including The Avett Brothers, Neutral Milk Hotel, Brandi Carlile, The Mountain Goats, Josh Ritter, First Aid Kit, Deer Tick and more.
