They’re crawling out of the darkness covered in dirt, using their rare moment in the sun to unleash an infernal buzz

Seventeen years after their last album, noise-punk icons Jon Spencer and Cristina Martinez sound as dangerous as ever: Brood X is a thrilling assault of fuzzed-out guitars, shagadelic 60s organs, and Martinez's earth-quaking caterwaul
Entertainment Weekly
New York City’s Boss Hog and director Aaron C. Lazar have released their delightfully mysterious video for the song “Shh Shh Shh” today via NPR. The track appears on their new album Brood X, out now on In The Red Records. Watch and share the video for “Shh Shh Shh” here.
Frontwoman Cristina Martinez told NPR: “Shh Shh Shh is a voyage into the id. An adventure in free association. Many of the songs on Brood X deal with moments of struggle or growth. We are always searching for a better way, a better self. Here you'll see Boss Hog searching through the darkness in true Scooby-doo fashion.”
Led by Cristina Martinez (ably assisted by her faithful sideman/husband Jon Spencer, as ever playing Flavor Flav to Cristina’s Chuck D), Brood X feels less like the work of a group who’ve been on ice for so long, more a slithering and sludgy monster of an album, a boiling pot of hot funk keys, growling punk attack, searing blues breaks and the ground-shaking holler of Martinez.
The 17-year cicadas have re-awoken, and not a moment too soon. New York has changed beyond recognition and there’s a buffoonish villain entering the White House, but Martinez’s towering vocals and vicious, hilarious, emboldening lyrics have never sounded so sharp, nor Boss Hog so timely. Opener ‘Billy’, all brawny low-end and delirious funk organ, finds Cristina and Jon howling about “The brink of destruction!” over apocalyptic beats, while Ground Control, a prismatic vision of today’s Big Apple, includes the bitter observation, “This is the cost of privilege”.
“A lot of Cristina’s lyrics on this album resonate with me more deeply since the election,” nods Spencer. “They’re blues songs, protest songs.”
“The songs do feel oddly relevant now,” Cristina adds.

“Sharkmuffin are either the most glam garage band around, or the grungiest glam band around.” –NPR
“…new punks with old school sensibilities…this is a vicious band with plenty of teeth.” – Consequence of Sound
“Brooklyn’s Sharkmuffin play scuzzy, ornery glam-rock with a strut – think T. Rex by way of Hole, or perhaps a more acrid Sweet.” - CLYVYNT

Brooklyn DIY duo Sharkmuffin is debuting “Little Bird”, their latest track and video, via Northern Transmissions. The video sees the gang hanging around typical Bushwick hotspots to the reverb-soaked head-bobber. Explaining the concept behind the video, Tarra Thiessen and Natalie Kirch say:
"’Little Bird’ is lyrically about an individual trying to be a big shot and climb his way up in the world. For the video, we decided to take the opposite approach and follow around THE biggest bird in the world: Big Bird.”
Tsuki will be released on May 5 via Little Dickman Records. Check out Sharkmuffin’s upcoming tour dates below.

MORE ABOUT SHARKMUFFIN:
Sharkmuffin is Tarra Thiessen and Natalie Kirch, a duo of Brooklynite sirens bred from the waves of the Jersey shore. Influenced by everyone from Nirvana to The Ronettes, Sharkmuffin adds a unique jagged edge onto ‘60s beach pop meets ‘90s alt sound, a genre lovingly dubbed “opti-mystic glam-grunge.” With several cross-country tours (including many return trips to SXSW) and no shortage of EPs, Sharkmuffin has been creating a veritable whirlpool of musical chaos. Their 2015 debut LP Chartreuse is their most vicious lure, featuring 10 tracks that bleed heavily with feminine rage and cheeky sass alike.
Sharkmuffin is ready to release their sophomore effort Tsuki (feat. Kim Deuss on drums) on May 5th, 2017, touring the country this March with their original line-up of Drew Adler on drums and Chris Nunez on second guitar, and plan to serve up their signature cocktails and ice cream by inventing the first punk rock brunch truck. Stay tuned for further deliciousness.
