Pixies announce that their sophomore “post-reunion” album, Head Carrier, will be released on September 30 (Pixiesmusic/Play It Again Sam) The 12-track collection of the band’s unique aural mix of surrealism, psychedelia, dissonance and surf rock was produced by Tom Dalgety (Killing Joke, Royal Blood) and recorded at London's Rak Studios from mid-February through to mid-March this year.  Fans can get a taste of the new music by going to pixiesmusic.com and checking out the first single, "Um Chagga Lagga."  Featuring original artwork by the band's longtime art director, the legendary Vaughan Oliver, the album will be available in various formats and can be pre-ordered now; go to Pixiesmusic.comfor details and purchasing.
A special limited edition deluxe box set of Head Carrier will be available exclusively throughPixiesmusic.com, and will include the CD, the album on heavy-weight/180 gram black vinyl, and a 24-page, oversized booklet with the song's lyrics and Oliver's evocative, original artwork.  Also available only through the band's website is a special bundle that includes the deluxe box set, special t-shirt, and a special screen printed 12 "x 12" record sleeve-sized poster of Oliver's album artwork.
To support Head Carrier, Pixies will launch the first leg of their 2016 - 2017 global tour with a European run that begins November 15 in Vienna.  Tickets go on sale Friday, July 8.  Confirmed dates are below; go to pixiesmusic.com for ticketing info.
For the first time since their very early days, the Pixies spent a total of six weeks in pre-production, writing, arranging and rehearsing a plethora of songs.  Between the band's late-80s/early 90s touring schedule and delivering an album once a year, there simply wasn't time for more than a day or so of fleshing out their music before recording started.
"This was a wonderful luxury, for us to have the time to be able to really work these new songs out," said Pixies drummer David Lovering.  "By the time we started recording, we all knew the songs backwards and forwards, so it took half as long for us to make this album as it did to make 'Indie Cindy.'  And it was great working with Tom...he started with us in pre-production and played a big part in keeping us focused on making the best music we could.”
In addition, the band - Lovering, rhythm guitarist/vocalist Black Francis and guitarist Joey Santiago - officially welcome bassist Paz Lenchantin to the Pixies' permanent line-up.  Lenchantin has been the band's touring bassist since January 2014, and played an integral part in the recording of Head Carrier. Her cool and dreamy soprano can be heard singing lead on the track "All I Think About Now."
"I was very nervous in the beginning when I went to that first rehearsal," said Lenchantin.
"There were these shoes I felt I had to fill and I tried to do the best I could for the fans, to make the live performances sound true to the originals. I spent three years learning to understand what being a Pixie meant, and now, my heart, spirit, and love for their music is embedded in me and I feel like I have become a Pixie.  We had been more about the history of the Pixies, but now, we are about going forward."
"Paz is a joy to be around," added Lovering.  "She's very funny, and we're having more fun than we've ever had as a band, we all have a blast together, on and off stage."
All songs were written by the Pixies apart from “All I Think About Now”, which was written by Francis and Lenchantin.  The track listing for Head Carrier is as follows:

"While it arises out of tragedy it does so with a gleeful vengeance, and in the case of this track, even a howl." - Interview

WATCH & SHARE: Breanna Barbara - "Nothin But Your Lovin"

"
Brooklyn-based musician Breanna Barbara ain’t just another super cute indie chick. This girl has got pipes, not to mention the unabashed soulfulness of the blues musicians of days past."
BULLETT

Breanna Barabara's "Mirage Dreams" is Interview's Song Of The Week.

Breanna opened to the magazine about the story behind this song: "This one came out of me like a freight train," she recalls. "I had been playing and writing songs on the guitar for a while but was becoming a little numb and uninspired in the whole writing process. A lot of the songs I was making at the time had been coming from my experience after losing my father unexpectedly to a drug overdose."

"I could tell something was boiling inside of me, I just didn't know how to get it out. I knew I was sick of being sad and I was sick of singing sad songs." "The moment this song came out of me I felt like I had finally shed some old snake skin and was ready to dance and scream."

Last week, BULLETT premiered Barbara's live video for "Nothin But Your Lovin." They praised her saying that she's not your typical cute indie chick, "This girl has got pipes, not to mention the unabashed soulfulness of the blues musicians of days past."

The singer-songwriter’s forthcoming Mirage Dreams LP introduces a bold new voice steeped in occult blues (think of it as a Southern Gothic fusion of blues and psychedelia), with songs about losing a parent to an overdose and a New York of empty clubs and sweaty, unairconditioned lofts but also about falling in love and finding an artistic voice.

Recorded and produced by Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes, Hurray for the Riff Raff) at The Bomb Shelter in East Nashville over two weeks in the winter of 2014, the album features Ben Trimble of Fly Golden Eagle (backing vocals, keys); Jem Cohen of The Ettes (backing vocals); Matt Menold (lead guitar, organ), Charles Garmendia (drums), and Eduardo DuQuesne (bass) of Clear Plastic Masks; Jon Etes (upright bass, pedal steel, keys); and David Grant (drums, percussion).

Breanna, who’d self-released two albums (Theoria and Baby Where You Are) on Bandcamp, sent her “funny little iPhone recordings” to Andrija, who invited her to come down to Nashville. She packed her guitar and drove down in the van she slept in some nights: “Every morning we'd meet around 10, drink coffee, listen to the acoustic demos I sent him, and brainstorm how we wanted the song to turn out. Then we'd go into the studio and do a few takes,” recalls Breanna. “I had literally never recorded with more than my iPhone or computer, so going from that to working with someone who has platinum records on his bathroom floor was pretty surreal.”

Breanna was born in Edina, Minnesota and raised in Bradenton, Florida. She began writing and performing songs at house shows and bars in St. Augustine, FL, and traveled around the north and southeast before settling in New York City. She has shared bills with Deap Vally, Yak, and The Mystery Lights, with upcoming concerts opening for Deer Tick, Margo Price, Wild Beasts, and Bo Ningen.

Mirage Dreams comes out on July 22, 2016, the first release from new NYC boutique label No Roads Records.

Scott Walker: 'The Childhood Of A Leader' O.S.T.

Released 19th August 2016

PRE-ORDER NOW FROM 4AD STOREThe Childhood Of A Leader

Scott Walker’s orchestral soundtrack to The Childhood Of A Leader is being released by 4AD on Friday the 19th of August.
Partly inspired by Jean-Paul Sartre’s short story of the same name, The Childhood Of A Leader is a tense psychological drama tracing the formative years of a young boy and set against the backdrop of the 1919 Paris Peace Conference that led to the establishment of the Treaty of Versailles.
A key and compelling component to Brady Corbet’s directorial debut, it is Scott’s first O.S.T. work since his remarkable score for Pola X in 1999. Walker continues to work with long-term collaborators Peter Walsh (co-producer) and Mark Warman (musical director), with the latter conducting an orchestra comprised of 46 string players and 16 brass for the studio recording.
The soundtrack will be available on CD, LP and download and is available to pre-order now. Please note that two LP editions are being pressed - black vinyl and a limited run on transparent vinyl (CADD 3620). The full tracklisting is below and you can listen to the track 'RUN' here.

“[Freeze] highlights Naomi Almquist’s vocals with a thunderous drum beat from Isabelle De Leon and spastic but complimentary instrumental production from Kenny Grimm that perfectly exemplifies the album’s title." - Stereogum
Today, Prinze George share "Freeze," the debut single off their first LP, Illiterate Synth Pop, viaStereogum.

In February of 2015, Prinze George started traveling to Minneapolis, MN to record Illiterate Synth Pop with Evan Bakke (Prince, Fraea, Soul Asylum) at Sounds Expensive Studio. They kept coming back in between tours with Albert Hammond Jr., Little Boots, Walk the Moon and more, and finished recording in early 2016.

Prinze George is Kenny Grimm (production/instrumental), Naomi Almquist (vocals) and Isabelle De Leon (drums), who are based in Maryland. Kenny and Naomi grew up together in PrinceGeorge's County, where they met Isabelle while she was in college. Formed in 2013, Prinze George has quickly exploded onto the Indie scene. Following the release of their breakthrough single, "Victor," The Wild Honey Pie declared, "[This band] could be destined for Indie Pop royalty status." Climbing to #1 on the Hype Machine charts, the single and the band have won the attention of music blogs, fans, and labels from all over the world. "Victor" was also selected for the movie soundtrack of Warner Bros.' biggest European release in 2014, "Honig Im Kopf," a film directed by Til Schweiger.

"Illiterate Synth Pop is a panorama of the people we grew up with and the places we've travelled to with them; both inside and outside of our home. Coming of age, Love, loneliness, and feeling stuck are frequent themes. This collection of songs is a great reflection of who we are,” explains Naomi. "Making the album in Minneapolis was a tremendous experience because we were immersed in a beautiful creative space that allowed us the freedom to work and play at our own pace. We were also surrounded by people who are focused and professional but also playful and free, which is imperative for our creative process. If making a record is just business as usual, it affects the music; so we were lucky to have it all.”
