Pere Ubu US begins September 6th at Hopscotch Music Festival

Pere Ubu North American tour begins September 6th!

Tour kicks off at Hopscotch Music Festival

"If Pere Ubu's '414 Seconds' were only an instrumental, it would be plenty terrifying: During these slinking seven minutes, drum hits trigger guitar cries that sound like death moans in the distance, while reeds of electronic noise slither like snakes through the din. But it's not instrumental, and both the curdled voice and the oneirological torment of frontman David Thomas only exacerbate the music's hall of horrors.

Pere Ubu returned with their first new studio album in over three years with the January release of Lady From Shanghai on Fire Records (home to Guided by Voices, Mission of Burma, Giant Sand, Bailterspace, Josephine Foster and many others). The album ushers in a new era in the history of Pere Ubu, with David Thomas and band continuing to provoke and shock listeners, further establishing them as one of the most innovative, progressive and important bands of all time.

The Pere Ubu project was supposed to be an end, not a beginning. Assembled in August 1975 to be the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young of the Cleveland music underground, the plan was to record one, maybe two singles and exist no more. Within months, however, those first self-produced records were being snapped up in London, Paris, Manchester, New York and Minneapolis. Pere Ubu was changing the face of rock music. Over the next 34 years they defined the art of cult; refined the voice of the outsider; and inspired the likes of Joy Division, Pixies, Husker Du, Henry Rollins, REM, Sisters of Mercy, Thomas Dolby, Bauhaus, Julian Cope and countless others.

Pere Ubu make a music that is a disorienting mix of midwestern groove rock, “found” sound, analog synthesizers, falling-apart song structures and careening vocals. It is a mix that has mesmerized critics, musicians and fans for decades.

Press for Lady From Shanghai:
"Pere Ubu made some of the darkest and most creative music of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Thirty five years after its release, The Modern Dance would easily make my top 10 of all time. We hear the word "industrial" bandied about to describe music — The Modern Dance exemplified that genre.  Wordsmith and singer David Thomas and his ever-changing band members have made more than a dozen albums worth hearing since then. And now they're back with a new song, "Free White," from a new album, Lady From Shanghai, due in January. It's good to know that singular, defining sound still haunts this band." Bob Boilen - NPR

“Ubu are generally regarded as the missing link between the Velvets and punk. From the beginning they obviously understood the nuts and bolts of popular music, and then loosened them.” Joe Cushley – Mojo

“They’re the greatest out-rock ‘n’ roll group of this millennium, and probably the next.” Edwin Pouncey – The Wire

THE HORRORS' TOM FURSE REMIXES ELEPHANT STONE

THE HORRORS' TOM FURSE REMIXES ELEPHANT STONE
Elephant Stone Tour Continues Through Eastern US

Today, Elephant Stone commemorate the launch of their Eastern US tour by releasing The Horrors' Tom Furse Remix of "A Silent Moment". The transcontinental collaboration was born of a chance meeting at Coachella that quickly developed into Elephant Stone's Rishi Dhir and Furse's frequent work on one another's projects. Recently, Elephant Stone premiered the third video from their self-titled sophomore record, "Love The Sinner, Hate The Sin" which was followed quickly by Dhir's appearance with Beck at Osheaga Music and Arts Festival, before the band began their US tour last night in Burlington, VT and continue to support the powerful self-titled sophomore record, released earlier this year via Hidden Pony and The Reverberation Appreciation Society.

LISTEN/SHARE: "A Silent Moment" (The Tom Furse Remix) (also avaiable for download for email at http://www.elephantstonemusic.com)

"Many attempts to incorporate traditional Eastern instruments into Western pop or rock music sound sloppy and cobbled-together, or even teeter on the edge of cultural tourism. Elephant Stone avoids this by cleverly employing the sitar as a textural sound rather than a more prominent melodic one." - NPR

Oh Land Unveils New Music Video For Single "Renaissance Girls"

OH LAND UNVEILS NEW VIDEO FOR SINGLE
"RENAISSANCE GIRLS"
HIGHLY-ANTICIPATED NEW ALBUM WISH BONE
DUE SEPTEMBER 24 (FEDERAL PRISM)
PRODUCED BY DAVE SITEK

Oh Land - Wish Bone

Danish alterna-pop chanteuse Oh Land, a.k.a. Nanna Ă˜land Fabricius, is excited to share the brand new video for her video "Renaissance Girls." Taking inspiration from Oh Land's past in ballet, the video features light-hearted choreography juxtaposed by the harshness of an abandoned warehouse setting. The video, premiered by Rolling Stone, is available to watch and embed via the links below. Bullett Magazine also has a behind-the-scenes sneak peak into the filming of the video.

Feel free to post & share:

"Renaissance Girls" on iTunes

"Renaissance Girls," available now on iTunes, is the new single from Oh Land's highly-anticipated new album Wish Bone, due out September 24 via Federal Prism, the new label launched by TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek. Featuring her distinctive brand of left-field pop, the album features collaborations with Sitek, as well as additional contributions from Sia, WNDRBRD and Dan Carey, among others.

On Wish Bone, Oh Land's approach to songwriting was grounded in her hunger to be present in her immediate surroundings, accepting the limitations of reality rather than creating an idealized fantasy world. Spending time writing in Los Angeles and New York, Oh Land found inspiration in the limits of her own physicality (a disciplined ballet dancer, her career was sidelined by a crippling back injury) and found freedom within those restrictions.

For the recording of the album, Oh Land collaborated with Dave Sitek, holing up in his studio in Los Angeles and allowing the process to reflect the spontaneity of everyday life. "The collaboration was very intuitive," explains Oh Land. ""We didn't plan what we wanted to do, we just pressed record and played a million different instruments. We were both eager for the songs to sound likes the lives we were living at the time, so we kept some of the 'mistakes' on purpose, maintaining the integrity of what was delivered in the moment." Fittingly, the album was recorded using analog equipment and features brass horns, harp, and even a choir all recorded live. The result is Oh Land's most raw and immediate album yet.

Last month, SPIN shared a sneak peak from the album called "My Boxer," asserting it "a slinky banger, which bobs and weaves with jabbing percussion, glitch electronics and a dangerously hummable melody."

Wish Bone is the long-awaited follow up to Oh Land's 2011 self-titled album that garnered overwhelming acclaim, with SPIN declaring it one of "20 best pop albums of 2011," and Details praising it's "fizzy, danceable electro-pop in the mode of Lykke Li and Florence and the Machine."

2.) RENAISSANCE GIRLS
3.) CHERRY ON TOP
4.) 3 CHANCES

KING KRULE SHARES VIDEO FOR "EASY EASY"

KING KRULE SHARES VIDEO FOR "EASY EASY"

PLAYING NEW YORK CITY, TORONTO & LOS ANGLES IN SEPTEMBER

6 FEET BENEATH THE MOON DUE 8/24 VIA TRUE PANTHER/XL RECORDINGS
King Krule photographed by Jamie James Medina

After recently announcing the forthcoming release of his debut LP last week, King Krule is unveiling his brand new video for the first single "Easy Easy." Directed by the renowned Focus Creeps (who have also directed acclaimed videos for the likes of Girls, Cold Cave, Arctic Monkeys and more), the video for "Easy Easy" distills the chaotic London backdrop around 18 year old Archy Marshall to offer a dazzling and at times surreal kaleidoscopic vision of contemporary life. But whether he's in a suit on a rooftop, or roaming around the streets of south east London, Archy remains undoubtedly, immutably himself - a unique, idiosyncratic figure cutting a dash across the modern musical landscape.

VIDEO: "Easy Easy" - http://youtu.be/hRzlbh4or3c

In conjunction with the video, King Krule is announcing a small number of North American tour dates shortly after the release of 6 Feet Beneath The Moon. In September, King Krule will play shows in New York City, Toronto and Los Angeles. All info on upcoming North American dates are below.

Tour Dates
9/09 New York, NY - Bowery Ballroom (Tickets available here)
9/11 Toronto, ON - Wrongbar (Tickets available here)
9/17 Los Angeles, CA - The Echo (SOLD OUT)
9/18 Los Angeles, CA - The Echo (SOLD OUT)

About King Krule:

As King Krule, 18 year old south-east London based singer/producer/songwriter Archy Marshall has quietly and stealthily crafted a reputation for himself as one of the most raw and startling voices of a new generation. With his unexpectedly deep and mournful baritone tracing fissures of disappointment and social disorientation to devastating effect, Marshall has harnessed the inchoate frustration and fury of youth and translated it into a series of brilliant singles released on the likes of True Panther Sounds and Rinse over the past few years.

Now comes 6 Feet Beneath the Moon, his first full-length on XL Recordings/True Panther Sounds, and with it, the much anticipated unveiling of the full scope and scale of Marshall's vision. Over the course of 14 tracks, Marshall's passions and confusions are rubbed raw and laid bare, the only connective tissue throughout it all being one of searing lyrical clarity paired with a confounding musical deftness which utterly belies his tender years. From the opening clarion call of "Easy, Easy" it is abundantly clear that this is a breathtakingly bold and arresting sonic worldview, as his songs, produced by Marshall along with Rodaidh McDonald (The XX, Savages), open up to become a loose knit meditation on regret and discontent, loss of faith and renewal of hope, and optimism in the face of desperation.

Eschewing much of his previously released material, 6 Feet Beneath the Moon firmly yet soundly rejects any notion of contemporary trends or peers to occupy its very own unique place on the music landscape, oscillating gently between the classic 50's soul of Gene Vincent and Elvis Presley to the minimal, avant-garde experimentation of Penguin CafĂ© Orchestra, to even the electronic smog and dub textures of Marshall's beloved Rinse FM. This is a record where the nakedly bluesy stomp of the likes of "A Lizard State" and "Easy, Easy" sit effortlessly next to the low-end frequency and shimmering beats of "Neptune Estate" and "Will I Come," after all. It is reflective as much of Marshall's own eclectic tastes as it is of the frenetic pulse and rhythm of the city around him, particularly the rapidly changing south-east areas in which he grew up. There is a genuine grittiness and world weariness ingrained here, as exemplified so succinctly when Marshall sings, "Hate...runs through my blood" on the stunning "Out Getting Ribs," the track which started all the fuss.

All these esoteric textures and fidgety, off-kilter rhythms make perfect sense as an album however, especially when you consider that incredible voice. Whether he is singing ruefully of youthful disaffection and "the heat of my own treason" ("Ceiling") or spitting out venomous lines like "I'm not going to crack like you cracked...I don't want to be trapped in the black of your heart" over the jittery "A Lizard State," its clear that something which marks Marshall out is his stunning ability to turn intense emotional peaks and troughs into spectacular pieces of artful, atmospheric and anthemic balladeering.

Some of the imagery is disturbing to be sure (as on the closer "Bathed in Grey" where he offhandedly murmurs that he "there was blood...found a body in the dark") but the songs are also imbued with genuine heart as well, as epitomised on his heart rending update of "Out Getting Ribs." Taken as a whole, 6 Feet Beneath the Moon is the sound of a young man growing up - not for nothing is this album being released, unconventionally enough, on a Saturday, which also marks Marshall's 19th birthday - and attempting to grapple with the realities of the world he inhabits, an unsparing dissection of the social decay that has begun to set in around him - and a fascinating, brutal journey it is too.
