(03 June) Marie Dahlstrom today announces her third full-length album MARIE will be released on 18th September via JFH Records, and shares jazz-influenced new single '1 Journey Away'.
The Roskilde-born & London-based vocalist, songwriter and producer has also recently announced her return to the live stage, with two headline shows confirmed in London (8th October) and Copenhagen (13 October).
New single '1 Journey Away' sees Marie Dahlstrom lean into her jazz influences, blending intricate, percussive rhythms with her signature soulful vocals. An expressive scat solo adds a standout moment of musicality, while subtle, groove-led production from Corey Fonville of US jazz quintet Butcher Brown underscores her versatility and refined musicianship. The song also includes features Cuban percussionist Eliel Lazo and a synth solo from Los Angeles musician Elijah Fox.
'1 Journey Away' is the third single to be revealed from Dahlstrom's new album, following 'Alive' (feat. Jords) and 'Frostbite'.
Speaking on the release of '1 Journey Away', Marie Dahlstrom said:
"The song is about family life - having loved ones spread across different countries and carrying that constant feeling of wanting to be closer to them. It reflects a longing for a slower, simpler way of living, where connection and togetherness matter more than everything else happening around you.”
On forthcoming third album MARIE, Dahlstrom turns inward, whilst refining the intimate songwriting, emotional honesty and nuanced musicianship that have made her one of contemporary R&B’s most respected voices. Written over the past two years between London, Copenhagen and Los Angeles, the record sees Dahlstrom expanding her sound with deeper jazz influences, live instrumentation and freer, more expressive arrangements; a statement of self-possession and an artist fully settled in her voice.
Rooted in neo-soul, jazz and understated grooves, across her releases to date, Dahlstrom been recognised across Billboard, NPR, Complex, COLORS, NYLON, The Line Of Best Fit, TRENCH, Wonderland and beyond.
From her 2020 debut album 'Like Sand' through to 2023’s 'A Good Life', she’s cultivated a glowing reputation, drawing praise from BBC 1Xtra tastemakers across the board and US cultural co-signs including repeated recognition on The Joe Budden Podcast, alongside collaborations with Odeal, Jay Prince, Kofi Stone and Braxton Cook, and culminating in a sold-out headline show at London’s Village Underground marking the release of her most recent album.
Without doubt, forthcoming album MARIE is set to reinforce her place among contemporary R&B's most distinctive voices.
