“Kool Aid” video still Today, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Debbii Dawson releases new single and video “Kool Aid”, another captivating glimpse into the sharp, personal reflection she has curated across her forthcoming EP Where Have All The Good Men Gone? — out June 26 via RCA Records. Anchored by whimsical chimes, soaring violins, lively rhythms, and Dawson's commanding vocals, "Kool Aid" transforms infatuation into something cinematic and heartfelt. Written and produced alongside Justin Tranter and Tommy English, the song draws from Dawson's firsthand encounters with narcissistic personalities — and the people who get pulled in by them. Her layered, yearning vocals feel both tender and deeply probing, turning a complex subject into a vibrant, theatrical pop anthem. The accompanying video, directed by Aaron Sinclair, finds Dawson draped in white at the center of a nocturnal, ritualistic gathering — a fitting backdrop for a song about the hypnotic pull of toxic devotion. Pre-save Where Have All The Good Men Gone? HERE, listen to “Kool Aid” HERE and watch the video HERE. Reflecting on the inspiration behind the track, Debbii offers, “I used to be in a cult. It sounds like a unique ordeal, but this brief time in my life taught me that the experience of being influenced and controlled to your detriment is more common than you think. You might be in a similar situation yourself right now, but blissfully unaware. My song ‘Kool Aid’ is about that feeling. ‘What do you think about control?’ — a cult leader chillingly asked me these exact words, and it’s a question I wanted to ask listeners in this song as well. We all want to believe in something or someone, to belong and experience meaningful connection. When all of these Great things are promised to you, it’s very easy to get sucked into something dangerous. We live in a time where our hope is being weaponized. My hope is that this song gets listeners asking themselves questions about what and who they believe in before it’s too late.” Last month, Debbii introduced the EP with the title track "Where Have All The Good Men Gone?", a sweeping, big-band-inflected pop song that captures the woes of modern life with sharp wit and self-awareness. Infused with dynamic drums, cinematic flourishes, and wandering synths beneath her layered vocals, the track invites listeners to reflect, laugh, and rethink their own intentions. "Kool Aid" follows as a natural companion — equally personal, but warmer and more intimate — further showcasing her gift for blurring genres and channeling lived experience into vivid, theatrical pop. Debbii Dawson first captured national attention on America’s Got Talent in 2022 with her standout rendition of ABBA’s “Dancing Queen,” a nod to one of her earliest inspirations. A first-generation Indian-American raised in the rural Midwest, her musical foundation is deeply rooted in family—her grandfather in India taught himself organ by sketching keys in charcoal, passing that gift down through her father to Dawson herself. She introduced her signature sound—melody-forward pop infused with folk warmth, nostalgic disco, and subtle country—on her 2023 debut EP Learning, before signing with RCA Records in 2024 and expanding her world with How To Be Human, featuring “Happy World” and “Turn The TV On.” The former, praised by Ones to Watch as a “soaring 70s-inspired track,” has since surpassed 5 million Spotify streams, alongside “Chemical Reaction” and “You Killed the Music,” which have each crossed 2 million streams. Her growing momentum has translated to the stage, with tours supporting Orville Peck, Suki Waterhouse, Role Model’s 2025 No Place Like Tour (across major markets including Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago), and select dates on The Beaches’ No Hard Feelings North American tour. Beyond her releases and touring, Dawson’s rise has been met with widespread critical acclaim. Following How To Be Human, she graced the cover of NME, earned praise from Huffington Post, Stereogum, and POPDUST, and appeared in Rolling Stone’s On Your Radar series—signaling her shift from emerging act to bona fide pop standout. Now, with “Where Have All the Good Men Gone?”, Dawson builds on that momentum, ushering in a bold new chapter defined by sharp lyricism, shimmering pop production, and an evolving sonic identity that resists easy categorization. A fearless force of style, personality, and sound, she is quickly establishing herself as an extraordinary and undeniable artist to watch, unafraid to bare her soul and trust her instincts. |
