Animal Collective’s Dave Portner (Avey Tare) and Brian Weitz (Geologist) have announced the US tour for their duo project Croz Boyce, in support of their self-titled debut album, out now via Domino. Artist and local presale takes place Thursday, June 25 at 10am local time, and general on-sale begins Friday, June 26 at 10am local time. The 14-date run begins September 8 at Asheville, NC’s AyurPrana Listening Room and takes Croz Boyce across the country, with stops in Atlanta, New Orleans, Portland, Seattle, and more. The tour also includes festival appearances at Austin’s Levitation and Cincinnati’s Talk Low Festival before concluding September 29 at Public Records in Brooklyn, NY. To mark the announcement, Croz Boyce have released a new remix of “Towson Acid” by More Eaze, the Brooklyn-based composer and multi-instrumentalist Mari Maurice. “Sometimes you keep running into another artist you don’t know personally and pick up on some parallel evolution,” says Weitz. “While we were working on the Croz Boyce songs, I saw Mari play both solo and in Water Damage and heard her solo LPs and collaborations with Claire Rousay. Between the guitar, violin, pedal steel, not to mention her sophisticated instinct for processing and collage, I thought she was traveling on a similar path and hoped to find a way to invite her into the project. We’re so honored she remixed ‘Towson Acid,’ and that beautiful moment at the end when she brings in her own sounds really illuminates how in sync we are with her.” Stream “Towson Acid (More Eaze Remix)” here. Released earlier this year, Croz Boyce is a nine-track collection that blends electric and acoustic string instruments, synthesizers, and percussion into a richly textured and exploratory sound world. The album was mixed in part by fellow Animal Collective member Josh Dibb (Deakin) and mastered by Taylor Deupree. It is available now on limited-edition clear vinyl, transparent orange cassette, CD, and digital formats: Digital and Dom Mart. Croz Boyce has received widespread acclaim. In a review for The Last Donut of The Night, Larry Fitzmaurice described the album as “tangy, enrapturing, and further adding to a catalogue of left-field American music that is at this point quite possibly peerless.” Aquarium Drunkard praised it as “breezy, bountiful collection of instrumental jams,” while Pitchfork observed that, “After over 30 years of making music together, Portner and Weitz can still surprise you with where they’re headed next.” The album was also recognized by Bandcamp Daily, who named it both an Essential Release and one of the month’s best ambient albums. |
