"As the instruments swirl and trade solos, you can practically hear the growth of a group that’s been pushing itself further and further with every tour and every Belgian-stove fuelled jam session." - The Big Takeover
"With synth pushed to the fore over rebounding percussion and wirey guitar riffs, they still manage to wrap the message up in an enjoyable post-punk-funk fusion. If society’s going to the dogs, we might as well dance into the darkness, right?!" - Louder Than War
"'Oh No' captures the Dutch rockers’ manic universe of hyped-up garage rock" - American Songwriter
"Full of funky bass lines, rapid fills, a manic guitar and compelling vocals that sound like Devo if they’d gotten into spoken word [...] bold, barren, unbidden, yet welcome all the same." - Joyzine
"When your band name goes as hard as Iguana Death Cult you’d better damn well have the chops to back it up. Fortunately, this Dutch five-piece undoubtedly packs the muscle required, delivering potent guitar-forward manifestos bursting with angular attitude and a dash of casual nihilism that quickly enraptured audiences on both sides of the Atlantic." - Alt Citizen
"Like a tightly would Viagra Boys or Franz Ferdinand taking liberties with post-punk and 70s rock, the track is taut yet expansive, as the festival-friendly vocal melody and chorus entrance and energise the listener right from the off." - Analogue Trash
"'Pushermen' sees the band leaning into their penchant for careening garage rock, building on layers of tight and nervy guitar lines, shouted hooks, and raucous gang vocals. The resulting track recalls both the jagged post punk of Parquet Courts and the ironic sleaze of Viagra Boys, especially given its heavy dose of tongue-in-cheek lyrics." - Under the Radar
"Channeling Madness, New York No Wave, and The English Beat, this high-energy tune is manic, disjointed, and highly catchy. It perfectly captures the feeling of ADHD, leaping and jumping from rapid-fire call-and-response chants, sax solos, and a hypnotic staccato bassline to anchor the madness." - Post-Punk
"'Sensory Overload' is a blast of those spiky rhythms that we’ve come to expect from them, with wired and crazed saxophone blasts from legendary Dutch saxophonist Benjamin Herman that add another layer to their new wave sound." - Louder Than War
"Chaotic, frenzied, and decked out with just the right amount of saxophone, this track will appeal to fans of Parquet Courts and Sleaford Mods." - Glide Magazine
"This shouty, angular track comes from Iguana Death Cult‘s forthcoming album Echo Palace. 'Sensory Overload' lives up to its name in the best way possible as it’s a noisy track that doesn’t sit still for a second. Combining post-punk with jazzier moments, the band have created quite an invigorating offering" - Mix It All Up
"A slice of jittery sax fueled no-wave post punk from the Rotterdam quintet, try not to let this one get stuck in your head." - Full Time Aesthetic |

Today, Dutch rock band Iguana Death Cult return with the announcement of their fourth long player, Guns Out, due for release April 10th via Greenway Records and The Reverberation Appreciation Society.
Guns Out marks a return to punchy garage rock and features honest self-reflection, addressing escapism, mental strain, and creative renewal. The result channels their early punk and garage roots, powered by Tobias Opschoor’s razorsharp riffs, Uri Rennert’s (Häxxan and Brian Jonestown Massacre) relentless drumming, Jimmy de Kok’s groovy rhythms and Jeroen Reek’s raw, emotive vocals.
Alongside the announcement, the Rotterdam band are leading the charge with single, "I Like It, It's Nice," a quirky, bass heavy groove.
The band explains, "this song is either a critique of consumerism fed by malevolent tactics of greedy corporations, social media trickery and the overall existential dread of late stage capitalism. A salacious confession of fleshly desires that will get you into the groove or a silly song about a British baking show. But we’ll leave that to the ear of the beholder."
Iguana Death Cult is a band who have made quite the miles in the last decade. Started as a group of young friends in 2014 wanting to make rock ‘n roll, the band has risen to great heights including touring with Osees, Frankie and the Witchfingers, supporting Jack White, playing SXSW, Levitation Festival and Desert Daze and doing multiple successful US tours.
On Guns Out, Iguana Death Cult is exercising self-reflection on multiple levels: by breaking with the more indie-like, art-punk-funk sound of their previous album (Echo Palace, released through Innovative Leisure in 2023), returning to a more ‘in your face’ punchy garage rock style. Tough yet introspective, Guns Out captures a band coming to terms with its own evolution and the turbulent world around it.
"I Like It, It's Nice," is out February 10th. Guns Out is out April 10th via Greenway Records and The Reverberation Appreciation Society. |
