PRAISE FOR GREG FREEMAN

"I fell in love with the Vermont singer-songwriter’s latest album, 'Burnover'...the 27-year-old Freeman sounds uncannily like a slacker-poet who has time-traveled here from the early ’90s and remains befuddled about how that happened; there’s more than a little Stephen Malkmus in his lackadaisical yowl."
New York Times

"Freeman proves himself to be one of the most exciting up-and-comers of the current pedal-steel-loving crop of indie rockers."

Consequence

"Its mess of squealing horns and white-hot guitar hammering turns an ass-backwards stumble toward oblivion into a dirge and a grand dance, balancing borderline-religious fervor with a passion for good, loud, stupid rock’n’roll. A single riff can rip the stars right out of the night sky and send them crashing down to the grimy barroom floor."
Pitchfork (Best New Music)

“ A captivating set of off-kilter country-rock from a new Americana eccentric.”

MOJO

"Some musicians make you wonder if what they’re doing is some sort of ironic mischief. Not Greg Freeman. He really means every word, bashing away on his electric guitar as bandmates on bass, drums, saxophone, and pedal steel guitar add rich colors to his visions."

Today, Greg Freeman has released a new music video for "Gulch," one of the standout tracks from his critically acclaimed album Burnover, released via Transgressive Records/Canvasback Music in August of this year. He's also announced a January/February 2026 headlining tour, which includes shows at Chicago's Schubas Tavern (1/17), NYC's Bowery Ballroom (1/29), and more. Full itinerary and ticket links can be found below. “Most of the footage for the video comes from the annual Cerrillos Burro race in New Mexico," Freeman explains. "As you can see they are not very good at running in a straight line.”

2025 has been a big year for Freeman and he shows no signs of slowing down–he just wrapped up a tour supporting Grandaddy for the 25th anniversary of The Sophtware Slump, recently completed an EU headlining tour, and went out on a support tour with Hamilton Leithauser (The Walkmen) earlier this year. He's also set to embark on a headlining West Coast tour this December

Explosive, unsettling, and undeniable, the 10 tracks on Burnover meld energetic indie rock with an ambling twang. It’s Freeman’s most adventurous and personal yet, cementing him as a singular songwriting talent. The album and its singles have earned praise and support from the New York Times ('8 Songs...'), Pitchfork (Best New Music reviewBest Music of 2025), NPR Music (Best New Albums/New Music Friday), Consequence ('Best Albums of August 2025') Rolling Stone (feature), MOJO (print review), Perfectly Imperfect (feature), Stereogum (feature), UPROXX (feature), Aquarium Drunkard (review), Paste Magazine (review, 'Best of What's Next' feature), Brooklyn Vegan (review, '10 Artists Shaping The New Country Boom' feature), and many more. The album's arrival follows pre-release singles "Salesman," "Gallic Shrug," "Curtain," and "Point and Shoot."

When Freeman quietly released his debut LP I Looked Out in 2022, it had no PR campaign, label, or music industry promo, but still garnered praise from notable critics, with Steven Hyden of UPROXX calling it “my favorite album of 2022 that I discovered in 2023,” and Paste Magazine naming it among the 25 Best Debut Albums of the 2020s. On his sophomore LP Burnover, out now via Canvasback Music/Transgressive Records, the Maryland-born, Burlington, Vermont-based artist uses the complicated backdrop of the Northeast to sing of grief, alienation, and the clarity that comes from opening up yourself to love.

Burnover is out now via Transgressive/Canvasback.
