May 14, 2025Tom Misch returns with a lovelorn ballad “Red Moon,” on which he continues to display a new sound and perspective, leaning further into guitar and voice. Written and recorded in Nashville with Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk, “Red Moon” takes the form of an aching conversation with the moon, as Tom asks it for guidance. Listen Here.
Tom’s voice becoming more central in his music reflects a shift in his approach to songwriting; whilst he has always loved melody and chords it is a renewed interest in lyrics that has inspired his new music. Driven by a desire to write songs that will stand on their own, he has found the most authentic way of sharing his story is with his own voice.
“Red Moon is sonically inspired by J.J. Cale and the way he double tracks his vocals, our vocal range sits in quite a similar low range. He sings very softly into a microphone and pans his vocals left and right, and runs it to tape giving his music a bedroomy, 70s diy sound and I wanted to capture some of that energy” offers Tom of the single.
Old Man” and “Red Moon” signal an exciting new era for Tom’s music, focusing on lyricism and the nuanced aspects of recording with live players. Together these songs evoke a different sonic landscape to his previous work; one with a distinctly more classic feel.
