EPIC 20TH ANNIVERSARY WORLD TOUR CONTINUES THIS WEEK

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah are continuing to commemorate the 20th anniversary of their landmark self-titled debut with today’s premiere of the album’s first-ever official music video, “The Skin of My Yellow Country Teeth,” co-directed by award winning filmmaker David M. Helman (IDLES, Vince Staples, American Football) and Daniel Henry (Julien Baker, Foster the People, Kurt Vile). Given carte blanche by Clap Your Hands Say Yeah founder and frontman Alec Ounsworth, the clip is a “celebration for the incompatible and the base models of all things, human and machine” says Helman, represented by a local hero who is a strip mall computer repairman (played by Eric Rahill). The protagonist gets glimpses into the customers’ lives while he tries to fill his own life with beautiful moments.

“I feel like there is a duality between the new and the old in the song – New York and West Virginia,” says Helman, who collaborated with Ounsworth on his 2014 album Only Run. He adds, “Electronics felt like real-world portals to jump seamlessly through time, to tap into virtual memories in a narrative way.”

Helman brought on co-director Daniel Henry, a fellow enthusiast for detail.

Henry reflects, “Once we knew we were planning on swirling the digital lives of the customers on screen, we both took it as a personal challenge to fill this video to the brim with references from growing up on the internet.”

While most music videos are meant to add imagery to a song, this clip flips the script and has the track act as more of a soundtrack to the visuals. The key to making this concept successful had everything to do with the creative liberty Ounsworth gave to the directors.

“It’s not often an artist or project lets us run wild with the concept and inject it with all our favorite things – Alec rules,” says Helman.

“Twenty years ago, I stubbornly refused many music industry tools, one of which was music videos,” says Ounsworth. “My reasoning was that the listeners should be able to create their own visual accompaniment to the songs rather than have something ostensibly pushed upon them. The result was that no official video was ever made for the first album.

“I have since softened my stance on this after having considered the possibility that a music video might instead be thought of as a collaboration between artists (musician and director) who have mutual respect for one another's work. In other words, I am happy to now let go and allow David Helman (whose work I sincerely admire) to put his and Daniel’s own interpretive stamp on ‘The Skin of My Yellow Country Teeth.’”

Today’s video premiere of “The Skin of My Yellow Country Teeth” heralds the limited deluxe vinyl anniversary reissue of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, as well as similarly special and limited versions of long out of print Flashy Python’s Skin and Bones, Ounsworth’s 2009 solo debut, Mo Beauty, and the band’s 2011 third album, Hysterical, all available Friday, May 30, on Ounsworth’s label via Secretly Distribution. Pre-orders are available now.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (20th Anniversary Edition) features a fresh reimagining of the album’s iconic artwork, embodying the album’s DIY spirit with stunning splatter vinyl housed in a refined gatefold redesign featuring peel-off gecko stickers for personal creativity and a bonus flexi 7” with the recently unveiled original 2004 recording of “Heavy Metal” all paying tribute to one of the most beloved indie rock records of all time. An exclusive trailer is streaming now on YouTube.

2025 also celebrates 20 years of Alec Ounsworth’s music; three notable albums are being reissued on limited edition vinyl with updated artwork and premium packaging. Skin and Bones by Flashy Python, originally released in 2009 and featuring members of Dr. Dog, The Walkmen, and Man Man, will return on translucent rouge vinyl with newly redesigned die-cut and semi-transparent covers.

Alec Ounsworth’s Mo Beauty, first released in 2009 and described by the artist as a tribute to New Orleans, will also be reissued. The album, which features contributions from George Porter Jr., Stanton Moore, and producer Steve Berlin, will be available on marble smokey vinyl with a redesigned gatefold and spot gloss varnish. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah’s 2011 album Hysterical, will be re-released with updated artwork that includes blue metallic foil, marble vinyl, and an exclusive inlay poster.

The Clap Your Hands Say Yeah milestone 20th anniversary will further be commemorated with a wide-ranging world tour that sees Clap Your Hands Say Yeah – currently comprising Ounsworth, Todd Erk (bass, synth), Jonas Oesterle (drums) and Ben Collins (guitar, keys, lights) – performing the classic album in its entirety. North American dates continue this week, culminating later in the month with a very special homecoming performance set for May 10 at Philadelphia, PA’s Union Transfer. Support comes from special guests Knifeplay (May 2-10). Ticket availability is increasingly limited. As a special incentive for concertgoers, all limited deluxe vinyl reissues will be available exclusively at the merch desk in advance of their official May 30 release.

In June, CYHSY will travel south of the border for shows in Latin and South America before crossing the Atlantic in September for a series of European dates culminating with a two-night stand at London’s EartH (September 19-20). From there, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah head off to Japan for eagerly awaited shows in Osaka (October 31) and Tokyo (November 1), followed by dates in Australia and New Zealand beginning November 5 at Sydney’s Metro Theatre.
