Today, September 5, 2024, Canadian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Leif Vollebekk reveals “Peace of Mind (Evening)” a memorable and melodious single co-produced and mixed by David Baron (The Lumineers, Shawn Mendes, Michael Marcagi). “This is the “evening version” of Peace of Mind,” says Leif. “This version isn’t even on the record. It just wanted to be its own thing. It wanted drums off the top. It wanted to have jangly guitars and 80s synthesizers. I suppose I wanted it to remind me of the bliss I feel when a great song come on the radio on a late-night drive.”
The new album, Revelation, will be out on September 27 on Secret City Records. Leif also announces his first U.S. tour dates in support of the new album starting November 7 in Philadelphia, PA. This U.S. leg follows a European tour starting on October 1 in Winterthur, Switzerland. Tickets for the European tour dates are on sale now. The U.S. tour dates go on sale September 6. Leif adds: “Considering the title, it’s rather ironic that I’ve spent more time recording this song than any other. I’ve recorded 4 or 5 different versions of this song. The latest, called Peace of Mind (Evening), the version that seems to include everything I’ve loved from each version that came before, including the vocal-heavy album version. I suppose it’s testament to how much the song means to me.”
“Singing this song, it just kind of sets me free. The melody came along fully formed right after I’d spent a few weeks' vacation with my family. I rediscovered my solitude for the first time in a while. And, in the stillness, I sang about them. I dreamt a child placed a dandelion on my grave. For some reason, I awoke incredibly peaceful. What does that mean?”
The visualizer accompanying the track was directed by Nicholas Sutton Bell.

Recorded at both Sunset Sound in Los Angeles and Dreamland in Woodstock, New York, Revelation is both ethereal and grounded, evoking a deep sense of introspection. The 11 tracks on Vollebekk’s Revelation blend narrative lyrics with one-take lead vocal performances, cinematic arrangements, rich soundscapes, and lush orchestration. Vollebekk's songwriting for this album was influenced by an exploration that began with Carl Jung’s I Ching and ventured into the ideas of alchemy and the unknown. The result is organic and earthy, with themes of nature—water, stars, mortality—woven into a reflection on living in a constantly changing present, infused with existential doubt and the quest for meaning. An artist’s artist with many colleagues as admirers, Vollebekk – who self-produced and played piano, guitar, bass, B3 organ, harmonica, accordion and Moog synthesizer on Revelation – compiled an impressive supporting cast that speaks to the caliber of musicianship and feel of the recordings, including legendary drummer Jim Keltner, notable steel guitarist Cindy Cashdollar (Bob Dylan, Van Morrison and Rod Stewart), and revered bassist Shahzad Ismaily. His other album collaborators included artists Angie McMahon and Anaïs Mitchell on background vocals. The album was mixed by Tchad Blake (Tom Waits, Arctic Monkeys, Tracy Chapman) and mastered by Greg Calbi.
