“The kind of punchy, hook-laden rock record that hardly gets made any more, straightforward in sound but borderline unassailable in its construction.”
The Guardian, Ones To Watch

Today Third Man Records are proud to announce the worldwide signing of Australian four-piece The Belair Lip Bombs and to reissue (excluding AUS/NZ) their 2023 breakthrough album, Lush Life. The news follows on from packed-out shows at SXSW and The Great Escape in the UK.

The band collectively had the following to say about the signing: “Signing with Third Man has been a dream for us, particularly as the first Australian band on the label. Everyone at the label is a legend and it’s obvious how much love they put into each of their releases. We couldn’t be more stoked to be joining the Third Man fam!"

The record captures widescreen indie songwriting, helmed by Maisie Everett (guitar, keys, vox) and fleshed out by a talented trio of musicians in Mike Bradvica (guitars)Liam De Bruin (drums) and Jimmy Droughton (bass). Featuring previous singles "Stay Or Go", "Gimme Gimme” and "Say My Name", Lush Life is a perfect album for first-time listeners to immerse themselves in, and signals the arrival of The Belair Lip Bombs.

The album was recorded between Naarm/Melbourne spaces Head Gap and Singing Bird studios, and saw The Belair Lip Bombs work with engineer Nao Anzai (Floodlights, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever) on mixing and mastering.

The band's Maisie Everett had the following to say about the record: “The album is titled ‘Lush Life’ - these words are referenced a few times throughout the album. Themes or motifs explored in the album often involve a longing for something that isn’t there, but maybe not quite knowing exactly what that something is. The term ‘Lush Life’ sort of describes a picture perfect world where everything is easy (but doesn’t actually exist).

I wanted it to be perfect, and we tried a lot of different things in the studio, in terms of melodies and harmonies. It was a lot of fun. I was playing in another band at the time and constantly on tour which made it hard to finish the album in a linear way. But I’m glad we took our time with it, because it’s turned out exactly how we wanted it."

The album is available digitally everywhere now, and will land physically on standard black LP and a limited edition opaque pink LP on October 18th.

The band, based in Melbourne/Naarm, are currently working on much-anticipated new material, with their second album expected via Third Man Records in 2025. More to come.
