Nicole Miglis (of revered indie pop experimentalists Hundred Waters) has just shared “Lure,” another standout from her impending debut solo album Myopia - out August 23rd on Sargent House. “Lure,” which arrives alongside a vibrant and whimsical music video by Ian Clontz is a cogent manifestation of Miglis’s innate ability to weave different influences, opening as a downtempo electronic ballad before revealing itself as frenetic dance pop via a wildly syncopated drum programming that joins the sonic pastiche. “The song plays on themes of allure, the shadow of desire, the push and pull, the power struggle of love, the games, the feeling of being reeled in and cast away like a fishing lure,” states Miglis of the song. The video playfully literalizes the metaphor at the song’s core, with Nicole playing multiple roles above and below the water in an impressionistic fishing odyssey.

“Lure,” like the preceding singles “Autograph” and “All I See Is You,” demonstrates Miglis’s mesmerizing ability to synthesize experimental production, pop melodies, and classical form into a musical language completely her own, an aesthetic that took root when she was splitting time between DIY music scene and studying classical piano performance at the University of Florida. This bridging of sonic worlds was crystallized during her tenure as a primary songwriter and front person for Hundred Waters, but for Myopia, Miglis was determined to write, produce and perform all of the songs herself. Myopia is the culmination of a lifetime of artistic endeavors, threading moments throughout her entire career. It blends textures and genres alongside instruments and influences—from pianos and strings to harp acoustics and ethereal loops—bridging the gap between classical and modern with an album certain to intrigue fans of electronic, orchestral, and pop music alike.
