(January 24, 2024) - Today, Empress Of announces her new album For Your Consideration due March 22nd via Giant Music. The announcement comes alongside a new single "What's Love" featuring celebrated LA band MUNA. The new song reflects on the significance of unrequited love and follows previous singles "Femenine", which came with a music video directed and choreographed by Ryan Heffington (Emmy for work on Euphoria, MTV VMA for Sia's "Chandelier"), and "Kiss Me," featuring Rina Sawayama, all of which are included on the forthcoming album. The album will also be available on vinyl and will follow Empress Of's feature on Shygirl's forthcoming Club Shy EP out Feb 9th.
For Your Consideration, a follow-up to 2020’s I’m Your Empress Of and 2022’s Save Me EP, is a bi-lingual album that embraces camp and fantasy playing with the idea of Hollywood. Lorely wrote the album in LA, Miami, and Montreal, and worked with a collection of songwriters and producers, including Nick León, Billboard, Valley Girls, Cecile Believe, and Umru. The album evolved out of the title track, which Lorely conjured out of the midst of disappointment. Empress Of shares, "I was in love with a director and he was announcing his ‘For Your Consideration’ campaign for the Oscars,” she remembers. “He took me up on a hill and said he was emotionally unavailable and he kind of broke my heart. I went into the studio that day and we wrote a song called ‘For Your Consideration’ that reflects on glam and Hollywood. That was the gateway for the album and it gave me the opportunity to explore broader themes."
The album sees Empress Of taking on the role of executive producer. Inspired by vocal music, she infuses each track with layers of her voice which serve as the drum beats, the bass, and the keyboard lines, with ASMR breathing surfacing throughout the album. The songs, which veer between English and Spanish, reflect on the transactional nature of love and sex, which is mirrored by the ephemeral sense of existence in the entertainment industry.
Alongside the album, Empress Of is also announcing a run of North American tour dates in addition to shows in the UK and Paris next month. Dates include New York, Los Angeles and Toronto end of May through early June.
Empress Of has collaborated with Top 40 pop artists like Khalid, cultural icons like Blood Orange, Lewis OfMan, DJ legend Boyz Noise, and many more. Last year the singer-songwriter also opened for Carly Rae Jepsen on her North American tour in addition to wowing audiences at festivals like Outside Lands and Corona Capital.
