Sudan Archives’ album Natural Brown Prom Queen has just turned a year old. To celebrate, The Egyptian Lover has remixed fan favorite “Freakalizer”.
The video for The Egyptian Lover’s “Freakalizer” remix was shot by rapper and Low End Theory cofounder All City Jimmy in Los Angeles. With footage taken at Egypt’s 60th birthday at the Lodge Room, the video sees Sudan at her freakiest in a candy-coloured Mustang convertible, and features a cameo from her dog Junko.
Since the release of Natural Brown Prom Queen, Sudan Archives has had a banner year: she’s played live at festivals including Coachella, Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Fujirock, and Splendour in the Grass; won two A2IM Libera Awards; and performed on Colbert and Fallon.
Natural Brown Prom Queen, her epic yet deeply personal second album, was one of the most acclaimed records of 2022, named an album of the year by Pitchfork, The New York Times, The Guardian, The FADER, The Needle Drop, NPR, Vulture, Time Out, CNN, Slate, Paste, SPIN, and many more. Recently, Sudan Archives was handpicked by superstar Bad Bunny for Rolling Stone's Future of Music issue.
Having played shows in multiple continents this year, Sudan will join ODESZA to perform "Selfish Soul" during their headline sets at Life is Beautiful and Austin City Limits, and play her own sets at All Things Go Festival, Austin City Limits, and LAC3 in Los Angeles, where she will close out the year supporting Erykah Badu.
