SebastiAn says: "The human encounter and the work with director Edouard Salier were one and the same for me. I felt a strong coherence between what drove him and what he did. We immediately agreed on cinematographic references and musical tastes, giving easy access to the intentions and musical direction we were going to give to the film. They were taken instinctively, as if they flowed from an inner logic.
The musical translation of what we could experience, from the subject to the general atmosphere all spoke to me. In this sense, the intersections between the synthetic elements (the coldness of technology, the dystopia, the severity of what life imposes on the characters), and the organic elements like strings (the human, the bonds and emotional twists to which the two brothers are subjected) crossed and formed a dialogue with the image that worked as well as the one we had with each other in life.”
Oliver Sim adds: "My love for film has always felt closely linked to my love of music. Whenever I start a song I usually have a fictional movie playing in my head that I’m trying to soundtrack. So being asked to work on a song with Sebastian for a real film felt like an exciting challenge. Tropic is a beautiful film that speaks to so many of the things I love and feel connect to. Science Fiction, family, love, beautiful boys and a vulnerable monster. So writing for this pre existing story with its themes, characters, beautiful imagery and the incredible soundscape Sebastian had created. It both came easy and was a genuine pleasure.”
The full-length studio film TROPIC depicts a story set in France: two trained astronaut twins go through a lot when one of them is contaminated with a mysterious residue from space.
Last month, SebastiAn and the UK trio London Grammar released a brand new, original track “Dancing By Night” on Because Music, plus the Jeanne Lula Chauveau-directed music video.
After having put his talent as a producer at the service of others (Frank Ocean, Philippe Katerine, Charlotte Gainsbourg) in order to better adjust his shooting, seduced the world of cinema with his original compositions for many award-winning films such as Quentin Dupieux "Steak" (2007), Romain Gavras "Our day will come" (2010), "The world is yours" (2018), as well as his continued collaboration with the house of Saint Laurent for which he produces their fashion show music, SebastiAn returned with a second solo album Thirst in 2019, the follow up to his iconic debut Total (2011).
From European electro to American R'n'B all in the great pop tradition, Thirst embraces all styles and emerges as an astonishing opening onto new worlds. And if SebastiAn has invited an impressive number of guests to Thirst (Syd from The Internet, Mayer Hawthorne, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Allan Kingdom, Sevdaliza, Bakar, Sunni Colón, Sparks, Gallant and Loota), it is because this project was born from the boiling caused by the oppositions.
