LEVITATION returns this Halloween weekend, taking over Austin, Texas music venues with an eclectic and expanded menu of music and art OCTOBER 26-29, 2023!

For over a decade, LEVITATION has delivered lineups that span psych, dream pop, punk, indie, metal, darkwave and electronic music – helping carry the spirit of 1960’s sonic experimentation into modern times. It’s a beloved record collection manifested into a 4 day weekend, with lineups that span continents and generations: a heady amalgamation of vintage gear, immersive light shows and visuals, buzzing amps, moody synths, leather jackets, and good times in Austin, Texas.
In 2023, LEVITATION expands the sonic spectrum and scope of the event with an eclectic lineup and the addition of two of Austin's newest independent venues: electronic music destination The Concourse Project, and South Austin’s outdoor, multi-stage event center The Far Out Lounge, where Austin Psych Fest was held in April. These new locations are in addition to LEVITATION’s traditional Red River and East Side venues, including the festival’s downtown main stage Stubb’s, and Red River and Eastside staples Mohawk, Empire, Hotel Vegas, Elysium, Parish, Antone’s and 13th Floor.
The multi-venue format encourages fans to choose their own adventure through the weekend - you can buy single show tickets for over 30 different shows, or go all in with a 4 Day Pass and indulge in the entire 4 day Halloween weekend.
Many of the shows are mini-festivals in their own right, showcasing scenes and corners of indie culture across the spectrum.
New additions bring us BADBADNOTGOOD and DJ Shadow joining forces on the Sunday night, headlining a two stage lineup featuring Armand Hammer, Fat Tony + more. The Saturday lineup at Empire has been announced, with Pelican, King Woman, Uniform, Skeleton and Glassing tearing up two stages presented with Austin heavy and experimental music specialists Oblivion Access.
Other highlights include: A 20-year celebration of revered indie label Numero Group features 90s greats Unwound, Codeine, Karate and Chisel. A 15-year anniversary celebration of Flying Lotus's Brainfeeder label, featuring Fly Lo, Hannibal Buress’s Eshu Tune, Salami Rose Joe Louis and more. A psych-rock fever dream featuring The Brian Jonestown Massacre, fest founders The Black Angels, Dandy Warhols, and more across two stages at Far Out. Friday at Far Out brings Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Panda Bear + Sonic Boom, Allah-Las, Tanukichan and more. An epic heavy metal Halloween nightmare topped off with Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats and High On Fire celebrating their 25th anniversary as a band. If you’re not planning out your costume already for this 4 day Halloween music feast - how about a stacked punk bill with Amyl & The Sniffers, Militarie Gun and Die Spitz? Also on the menu: a West Coast psych/garage dream bill with Ty Segall & Freedom Band, Shannon & The Clams, and Ripley Johnson’s twangy trip Rose City Band. More you ask? West Coast psych sister-festival Desert Daze presents Altin Gün, Say She She, Pachyman, JJUUJJUU and more on Sunday evening. International stoner metal collective Heavy Psych Sounds presents Dead Meadow, Ecstatic Vision, 1000mods and more. LA darkwave destination Substance presents their own showcase with Twin Tribes, Nuovo Testamento, Sacred Skin and Vosh.
The list goes on, including show headliners and lineup highlights, Oneohtrix Point Never, Durand Jones, The Church, Blonde Redhead, Mercury Rev’s Clear Light Ensemble performing a live score to the 1932 classic horror / noir film Vampyr, Death From Above 1979, the return of Alan Palomo (Neon Indian), Jockstrap and many, many more.

ABOUT LEVITATION
Founded in 2008 as Austin Psych Fest by members of The Black Angels and friends, the independent event sparked a movement, inspiring the creation of similar events across the globe. Austin Psych Fest was renamed LEVITATION in honor of Austin’s psychedelic rock pioneers The 13th Floor Elevators, who reunited and performed at LEVITATION 2015 for the band’s 50th anniversary. The event has stayed true to its original mission - to be a hub for the psych rock scene - while expanding into the worlds of metal, electronic music, punk, and all manner of independent and underground music, with a simple mission:

Through Austin’s famed music venues, live music scene and a host of collaborators and friends from Austin and beyond, the event continues to be a pillar of the global music scene. LEVITATION fosters a thriving community, pushes genre boundaries, and continues to shape the cultural landscape of Austin as a hub for cutting-edge and alternative sounds.
LEVITATION 2023 will bring another epic 4-day weekend of music and art to Austin’s Red River District, East Side venues and beyond with the addition of two new venues - electronic music destination, Concourse Project, and South Austin’s outdoor, two stage, event center The Far Out Lounge. The 2023 lineup is an eclectic, genre-spanning showcase of psych rock, metal, punk, electronica and all things in between - a celebration of independent music and art.
The lineup is perhaps the most diverse and ambitious yet, a throwback to Austin’s beloved Fall festival Fun Fun Fun Fest, which was helmed by long-time LEVITATION collaborator Graham Williams. Graham and the booking, creative and marketing team at Resound Presents have been tapped to help take the event to the next level, producing LEVITATION events across the 4 day weekend and throughout the year, including the return of AUSTIN PSYCH FEST.
AUSTIN PSYCH FEST returned in April 2023 celebrating its 15 year anniversary with a 3 day throwback to the original multi-stage, single venue format. APF is here to stay, returning to The Far Out Lounge April 26-28, 2024. Austin Psych Fest honors the city’s 1960s psychedelic rock heritage and brings it into the here and now - bringing tripped-out sounds to an appropriately laid-back South Austin setting.
LEVITATION FRANCE celebrated its 10th year in 2023 with a sold out weekend in Angers, FR. The festival brings LEVITATION’s signature sights and sounds to this idyllic riverside city in the Loire Valley, in partnership with Radical Production. Stay tuned for 2024 dates and info.
THE REVERBERATION APPRECIATION SOCIETY (RVRB), the record label and creative collective that started the original event, has released records by key bands in the psych and garage rock scene, and kicked off its Live at Levitation archive series in 2021 with live releases from King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Kikagaku Moyo, The Black Angels, Primal Scream and more. Levitation Sessions, the imprint’s live album + film series, captures bands like Osees, Windhand, Ty Segall, SLIFT, Death Valley Girls and more, performing in unique locations and pressed to limited edition vinyl. RVRB’s online shop offers an ever-expanding selection of limited edition vinyl from other labels, guitar pedals, turntables, art prints, one of a kind tie-dyes, and more.
