Following widespread excitement upon announcement of Lucrecia Dalt’s eighth solo album ¡Ay! and its first single ‘No Tiempo’, the next installment of the LP’s story has now been unveiled.
Listeners of No era sólida (2020) and Anticlines (2018) will be familiar with Dalt’s surrealist explorations of narrative and character within the vessel of a release. Whereas the ‘No Tiempo’ video introduced the album’s central character – an alien entity landed on earth named Preta – having her first encounter with an Earthling named Cuc Clementi, in ‘Atemporal’ Cuc experiences an anomaly created by Preta called ‘No Time’. Here Dalt’s smoky lyrics breathe consciousness into Preta, who roams the musical geology of¡Ay!, and recognizes herself in the timelessness of a rock. In this mountainous setting, Cuc tries to explain to her the sensations of this experience, while a snake is hopelessly enticed by the pair.
‘Atemporal’ emerges like a fever dream from ¡Ay! – a hallucinatory crossing of tropical rhythms and sci-fi storytelling processed by memory and modular synths. In ‘Atemporal’, Dalt casts lucid vocal flares into an atmosphere permeated by scorching melodic embers of woodwind and brass. A sultry parade of upright bass melds with the rhythmic contours of the song, where traditional drum patterns cultivated with Dalt’s friend and collaborator Alex Lázaro are expanded into the song’s rolling, crystalline prowl.

"This song is a coalescence of many things from my palette, like a collection of Dalts commingling from different eras: vocoders, synths, heavily processed drums, use of texture and distortion slowly transforming into an energetic slowed down alienated tumba", comments Dalt.

The video was shot in Mallorca and was created by Aina Climent (cinematography) and Lucrecia Dalt (script).
