Oneohtrix Point Never is set to release Renditions I, a two song 10” comprised of alternate versions of songs from his acclaimed eponymous Magic Oneohtrix Point Never album, as a Record Store Day Black Friday exclusive this week. The limited edition release includes OPN’s lauded collaborations with ROSALÍA (“Nothing’s Special”) and Cocteau Twins’ Elizabeth Fraser (“Tales From the Trash Stratum”), both of which also appear on the special expanded Blu-ray Edition of Magic Oneohtrix Point Never, set for release the following Friday, December 3, 2021.

Ever the innovator, the Blu-ray contains spatial audio Dolby Atmos® mixes of the album that were conceived and created during the original mixing period of the album last year and represent OPN’s first official exploration of immersive audio outside of his movie scores for Uncut Gems and Good Time

Alongside the original stereo album, the Blu-ray Edition includes four bonus songs: fascinating juxtapositions between alternate takes of “Lost But Never Alone” by OPN himself and PC Music head AG Cook; and two of the most singular female voices in the last 40 years of experimental pop, the haunting rework of “Nothing’s Special” with ROSALÍA (listen HERE) and now, released today, the lilting dreamscape of “Tales From The Trash Stratum” with Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins) (watch/listen HERE).

The package also includes sixteen music videos, representing a career spanning anthology of OPN audio-visual works to date. They are directed by a staggering list of collaborators including Josh & Benny SafdieTakeshi Murata and Nate Boyce and stars the likes of Robert PatinsonVal KilmerIggy Pop and even the renowned brutalist architecture of London’s Barbican Centre. Given OPN’s unwavering curation of video talent it is unsurprising to note that his videos were afforded their own exhibition at LA’s Hammer Museum in 2016. The Blu-ray Edition finally features new artwork and animated menu by Robert Beatty.

The Dolby Atmos audio will also be available on compatible streaming services from the Blu-ray release date.

About Magic Oneohtrix Point Never

Oneohtrix Point Never has always been meticulous and evocative, from the deconstructed plunderphonics of Replica and R Plus Seven, to the alt rock and chamber pop songwriting of Garden Of Delete and Age Of, to the symphonic nature of his scores for the Safdie Brothers’ Uncut Gems and Good Time.  With the release of Magic Oneohtrix Point Never, Lopatin turns the dial towards his own inner frequencies, drawing from the origins of OPN as a means to discover a new found sense of levity and spirit during tumultuous times. The structure of Magic Oneohtrix Point Never “mOPN”  loosely summons the broadcasting logic of radio dayparts, starting in the morning and ending overnight.  It synthesizes all elements of his previous material to craft a cohesive humanistic masterwork, rendering the self-titling of the album as much a reference to his roots as to his entrenchment in the present moment.

Featuring vocals from frequent collaborator The Weeknd (who also Executive Produced), Caroline PolachekArca and Nolanberrolin, OPN made his solo debut on US Late Night on the album, performing “I Don’t Love Me Anymore” on Colbert and went on to Music Direct the Weeknd’s 2021 Superbowl LV Halftime Show.

With the release of the Blu-Ray edition of Magic Oneohtrix Point Never, Lopatin has mastered his ability to present his work in multiple impactful sonic and visual experiences.

Courtesy of Dolby Atmos®

Dolby Atmos is a completely new way to create and experience music that delivers artistic expression at its fullest capacity, forging a deeper connection between artists and their fans. Music in Dolby Atmos goes beyond the ordinary listening experience by immersing you in the song, revealing details with unparalleled clarity and depth. It gives artists more space and the freedom to fully realize their vision and unlock new levels of emotion in their music for their listeners. Whether it’s hearing the layers of instruments move all around you, catching the

subtle breath a singer takes between lyrics, or feeling melodies wash over you – nothing puts you inside the music like Dolby Atmos.

Praise for Magic Oneohtrix Point Never

“Magic Oneohtrix Point Never is a standout entry in a catalog with many highlights, and a good starting point for those new to Mr. Lopatin’s beguiling universe of sound.”

WALL STREET JOURNAL

“Lopatin has a remarkable talent for giving shape and movement to an indistinct mass of sonic matter, setting it in motion like a baton-wielding maestro conducting a murmuration of starlings” PITCHFORK
