A Record Store Day Black Friday 2020 title, which debuted at #9 on Billboard’s Alternative New Artist Albums Chart, The Fleshtones Face of the Screaming Werewolf will see wide release on February 26. Today, the digital single, "Violet Crumble, Cherry Ripe," is at all DSPs, and the album is available for pre-order (CD/LP/Digital).
Recorded at Red Chuck Studio in Mechanicsburg, PA by Michael Giblin and The Fleshtones, and mastered by Kurt Bloch, two of the songs from the band’s 11-track, 22nd album - "Face of the Screaming Werewolf" and "You Gotta Love, Love" - have been selected as “Coolest Song in the World” by Little Steven's Underground Garage on SiriusXM.
Last fall, the band connected via Zoom with Joe Bonomo, an American essayist and author of Sweat: The Story of The Fleshtones America’s Garage Band, to discuss the new album. Check it out here.
Pumping out hits for over four decades, The Fleshtones—Keith Streng (guitar, vocals), Peter Zaremba (vocals, keyboard, harmonica), Bill Milhizer (drums percussion, vocals), and Ken Fox (bass, vocals)—debuted at CBGB in May 1976, and were the first band to play at Irving Plaza and Danceteria in Manhattan, Maxwell’s in Hoboken, New Jersey, and the first to be booked at the original 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C.
Over their storied career, they have been the subject of books (the above mentioned Sweat by Joe Bonomo, movies (Pardon Us For Living But The Graveyard’s Full, 2009), played on Andy Warhol’s short-lived MTV show while Sir Ian McKellen read Shakespeare over their jamming, and were the last band to publicly perform at the World Trade Center’s Windows on the World.
