Yola performed her version of the civil rights anthem, “To Be Young, Gifted and Black,” last night on Late Night With Seth Meyers. Watch here. The performance was filmed at the Ryman in Nashville, where Yola will make her headline debut on May 11 2021. Tickets are now on sale here. Yola will open for Chris Stapleton across multiple shows in 2021, including performing at Madison Square Garden in New York on October 8, 2021.

Discussing her Late Night With Seth Meyers performance, Yola stated, “Playing To Be Young, Gifted and Black means so much to me. I grew up with that song and it was the first time I felt a song was directed at me, in a world that didn’t represent me in any way.”

Yola added, “playing in the Ryman is such an honour, the room sounds exquisite and is full of legendary energy. It felt meaningful singing those words in that venue, and to take up space in that way. I can not wait to headline in May 2021 - it’s been on my dream list since I first came to Nashville.”

Yola will appear on PBS’s forthcoming Great Performances: GRAMMY Salute to Music Legends show, broadcast on Friday October 16. In collaboration with the Recording Academy, Great Performances will this year honor, Chicago, Roberta Flack, Isaac Hayes, Iggy Pop, John Prine, Public Enemy and Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Yola will perform Sister Rosetta Tharpe’s “Up Above My Head, I Hear Music In The Air” alongside performances from Laurie Anderson, Philip Bailey, Brandi Carlile, Cynthia Erivo, Chris Isaak, Jason Isbell, Cyndi Lauper, Sam Moore and Leslie Odom, Jr. In addition, she will play Sister Rosetta Tharpe in Baz Luhrmann’s musical drama “Elvis,” alongside Tom Hanks and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Currently, Yola is featured in The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s The Unbroken Circle exhibit paired with Dolly Parton.

Yola’s debut album Walk Through Fire, received widespread acclaim from publications including Rolling Stone Magazine who proclaimed her “the Voice of 2019” to The New York Times, who praised her “genre fluid” blending of sounds from “vintage Southern soul” to “early 1960s pop melodramas of the Righteous Brothers and Roy Orbison.”  Yola received four GRAMMY award nominations including Best New Artist and performed her nominated song “Faraway Look” at the GRAMMY premiere ceremony.

Following the onset of the Covid19 pandemic, Yola has performed for a number of charitable and public-awareness initiatives. This included an appearance at WME’s RWQuarantunes, featuring performances from Yola alongside Michael McDonald and Darius Rucker and special guest Clive Davis, raising money for the MusiCares Covid-19 Relief Fund. Yola also performed at "Twitch Aid," alongside some of the world’s biggest artists including: Rufus Wainwright and John Legend, raising funds for the World Health Organization. Yola also appeared on BMI’s Tennessee Diversity Consortium Surviving Crisis panel and recently contributed a performance for Annie Lennox’s Circle Music Auction to help raise money for women and girls who have been disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.

Yola’s debut album Walk Through Fire was released on Dan Auerbach’s record label, Easy Eye Sound:
