Peter Bjorn and John Kick-Off 20th Year with Cautiously Optimistic and Utterly Catchy Single “On The Brink” – the 4th Song From Their 9th LP Endless Dream – out March 13 via INGRID |
New York, NY – 10th January 2020 – Sweden’s favorite indie-pop trio Peter Bjorn and John kick-off their 20th year together with the cautiously optimistic and utterly catchy single “On The Brink.” The song is out today and is the fourth to be released ahead of the band’s forthcoming new album Endless Dream which is due out March 13th, 2020 and is their 9th full-length studio album. As with the previous singles “Idiosyncrasy,” “Reason To Be Reasonable,” and “Rusty Nail,” there is an official music video for “On The Brink” being released next Friday, January 17th.
“In line with most of the other songs on Endless Dream, ‘On The Brink’ has a cautiously positive philosophical outlook on life and the shortcomings of being. It looks onward with a grain of hope and confidence. It wonders what's really important when everything comes to a head and the mind is boggled with how extremely tiny we all are compared to the vastness of the universe.” Commented Peter when asked about the song adding, "This dramatic triple time track has a lot in common musically and emotionally with PBJ's epic indie-classic ‘Objects Of My Affection’ from the Writer's Block album. With rolling tom-toms, mandolin, 12-stringed guitar and a singalong sea shanty chorus, it might even be its older and slightly wiser folk-rock cousin or sibling.”
As with the three previous singles, the accompanying artwork for “On The Brink” was created by Writer’s Block illustrator Graham Samuels. The sonic and visual tie to their earlier releases is no mistake, as the band has been talking about their path back to a simpler time following the release of 2016’s Breakin’ Point LP – an album that almost signaled the end. 2018’s Darker Days LP was the first step and with Endless Dream these three seasoned songwriters, musicians, producers brought their two decades of experience into the studio.
Peter captured the band’s world-weary yet hopeful view in “On The Brink,” adding “Maybe to live in the present with abandon and dare to dream (even endless hopeless dreams), gaze at the world with a wider and more allowing perspective, and not judge too hard and understand the importance of forgiveness.”
