Latest Album Internet Arms Out Now

"Diane Coffee gives the kind of live performances you talk about for weeks after seeing." – NPR

"Internet Arms marks a significant new phase for Fleming, a testimony to the idea that Diane Coffee will endure as a fluid form of expression that continues to defy expectations of sound and genre." – Talkhouse

"Internet Arms is theatrical and infectious, a work of fantastical, dystopian queer escapism about technology, state oppression, resistance, identity, and community."

In anticipation of their forthcoming tour dates with The New Pornographers, the ever-evolving spectacle that is Diane Coffee has announced a brand new single, and their first since 2019's Internet Arms – "The Letdown". Explaining the origins behind the new track, Diane Coffee singer/songwriter and band leader Shaun Fleming shared the following –

“I originally wrote “The Letdown” while writing for Internet Arms, but I held it back because the sound and themes felt separate from the album. This song always stood out to me though, so I felt compelled to revisit it with the help of co-producer Tim Smiley and Lvcky Dave (Bryce Vine), who updated the beat. The song is about the confrontation between the generation of new and the generation of old, a forcible ”passing of the torch” with the assistance of time, somewhat inspired by the recent "Ok Boomer" sentiment. The message is meant to be positive though, with the intention of lifting up those who feel hopeless.”
Formed, or rather, conceptualized in 2012, "Diane Coffee" has served as the bombastic alter-ego of the now Bloomington, Indiana based Shaun Fleming. After departing Foxygen's live band in 2012, Fleming began putting together the demos of what would become Diane Coffee’s rapturous lo-fi soul introduction, My Friend Fish. Leaning further into the pop influence of those early recordings, Fleming returned full-force with the glam-stomp romp of 2015’s Everybody's a Good Dog, which saw them bring an electrifying performance to the stage of NPR's legendary Tiny Desk.

After releasing the 2017 Peel EP with their new label home, Polyvinyl Record Co., Fleming shifted gears, both stylistically and in sound, for the electro-pop and new wave drenched Internet Arms, released in April of 2019. Armed with a face full of glitter and a mane of electric yellow hair, the band's latest effort ponders the age of information and the effect of digital intimacy, and was subsequently championed by the likes of KEXPFLOODAquarium Drunkard, and more.

While Fleming's look and sound may continue to change, it's also become a cornerstone of the Diane Coffee experience, always urging you to let go of inhibitions, embrace your wild side, and share that exuberance with the world, no matter where you’re at in your evolution.
