"There's a haunted elegance to Spielberg's presence on Facepaint, a willingness to be still amid minimal production. ... Facepaint is Spielberg's experiment in how to occupy space on her own-and it reveals a musician wise enough to give herself room to move around." - PITCHFORK
"Smart, introspective synth-pop that recalls Haim and Lykke Li." - ROLLING STONE
"With a voice that can gracefully maneuver across octaves, the singer fills her measures with dramatic flourish that recalls British singer Kate Bush." - LA TIMES
"The vibe is emotional DIY-electro meets Hollywood sheen, and it's glorious." - PASTE
"Sasha's vocals shine on the slinky, dreamy pop gem 'Coolhand' ... 'No Her' is a dreamy, heartfelt ballad, with Jaar's dramatic, subtly sweeping production acting as a haunting backdrop for Spielberg's soul-baring expression of self-doubt." - GORILLA VS. BEAR
"Vulnerable, luscious vocals." - i-D
"With lyrics that seemingly come straight off her diary page-witty and highly self-aware-and production that is simultaneously haunting and comforting, the EP's five tracks pack quite a punch." - OFFICE MAGAZINE
"Orchestral, warbling synth pads provide the moody, ambient background that supports Buzzy's full-bodied vocal musings on her latest social observations." - FLAUNT

Buzzy Lee, the pop project of Sasha Spielberg, released her Nicolas Jaar-produced debut EP Facepaint earlier this year to acclaim from fans and critics alike, who fell for her deeply intimate songwriting, powerhouse vocals, and dreamy synth-pop sound. Buzzy Lee has since been taking Facepaint on the road, appearing at festivals like Philadelphia's Made In America and sharing the stage with Dirty Projectors and Rostam. This month, Buzzy Lee will be touring Europe and the UK, including appearances at London Calling Festival in Amsterdam and Pitchfork Avant-Garde Paris, and in anticipation of that tour, she's shared a previously unreleased demo from theFacepaint sessions, "Better."
Buzzy Lee says of "Better," "This a 'demo' straight from the heart. Though is it a demo? Is it a song? Isn't every song technically a demo if you're a perfectionist? The files of this song are nowhere to be found, so this song only exists in this state. I hope you cherish it. Love, Buzzy."
Facepaint is available now on Future Classic.
