Today, Escape-ism shares “Bodysnatcher,” the second film-45 snatched from the upcoming long-player by that beneath-the-underground sin-sation. Only ten months after he provided us with an Introduction to Escape-ism, mythic rock ’n’ roll provocateur / theorist / revolutionary Ian Svenonius is back with The Lost Record, a classic destined to bewitch the minds, hearts, and dancing shoes of any rock ’n’ roll fan who happens to discover it, for as long as such creatures exist.
Watch the music video for “Bodysnatcher” now and reserve The Lost Record on CD, LP, and limited-edition clear Peak Vinyl in the Merge store (get a free autographed 8” × 10” Escape-ism glossy while supplies last) or pre-order through your preferred digital music service.
Directed and co-starring filmmaker and Escape-ism collaborator Alexandra Cabral, “Bodysnatcher” is a poignant examination of the politics behind erotic abduction, Stockholm syndrome, ideological indoctrination, psychic seduction, love on the rocks, and eros on the coast.
Escape-ism chanteur Ian Svenonius elucidates:
“Bodysnatcher” takes its name from the paranoid classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers, which cast communist influence as an outer space invasion. The body snatcher is a kind of mythic folk figure who represents the threat or the allure of total romantic or ideological takeover and surrender.
