Icelandic composer Ólafur Arnalds has debuted a new video for 'Only the Winds' with VEVO. Taken from his latest release, For Now I Am Winter, featuring arrangements from Nico Muhly and Icelandic vocalist Arnór Dan, the album, available now on Mercury Classics, topped the Billboard Classical Traditional Charts for several weeks in a row and received critical acclaim from Rolling Stone, Interview Magazine, KEXP, SPIN, and more. Arnalds performed the song in one of several stripped-down performances at SXSW , which was deemed one of NPR's "Top 15 Essential Moments" of the festival (watch at Baeble). NPR also recently followed Arnalds to NYC to film his unforgettable performance at Le Poisson Rouge with 28-piece orchestra Ensemble LPR and vocalist Arnór Dan. Watch the NPR premiere of Arnalds' April 18th sold-out performance HERE and check out interviews and performances surrounding the show with NBC NY, BlackBook, BalconyTV, PRI's The World, and more.
Arnalds continues to steadily build a reputation as one of the world's most bright and able young composers, currently scoring the music for BBC's critically acclaimed #1 hit drama Broadchurch, and featured on The Colbert Report. Purveying a neo-classical style with an array of influences which range from electronica to minimalism, Arnalds is an artist who draws from a variety of sources whilst maintaining his own unique sound. Since the release of his 2007 debut, Eulogy for Evolution, the 26-year-old, has put his name to a variety of projects and collaborations ranging from Emma Watson to Peter Broderick to Nils Frahm. Since 2009 he has scored films and TV shows including Another Happy Day, the feature film Gimme Shelter (Starring Vanessa Hudgens), as well as having tracks featured on the soundtracks to Hollywood hits The Hunger Games and Looper. He's also released two EPs each composed in a week; Found Songs in 2009 and Living Room Songs in 2011. Both of these collections featured works written and recorded in a day, the former innovatively released through Twitter and the latter released to his fans with accompanying videos through his social media channels and website. Arnalds will return to the US for more performances this coming July. Stay tuned for details.
