Brooklyn-based alt-rock trio Trophy Wife have long been a favorite of the New York DIY scene, building a reputation through their raw, evocative, and powerful live performances, alongside a distinctive grunge-leaning sound. Formed in the basement scene during their time at Berklee College of Music in Boston, the band has quickly emerged as a breakout act, earning comparisons to contemporary artists like Wednesday and Blondshell, as well as ’90s alt legends such as The Cranberries and Nirvana. The project is led by vocalist and songwriter McKenzie Iazzetta, joined by Christian Pace on bass and Michael Martelli on drums.
This past fall, the band shared an Audiotree Live Session followed by the release of "So Hard, " their first new music since their debut LP, Get Ugly. They recently concluded a successful winter tour across the Midwest as direct support for Irish punk band SPRINTS and earned themselves a feature in Rolling Stone for The Best Moments From SXSW 2026.
Today, Trophy Wife announce their sophomore LP, Pathetic, out July 24 via AWAL. Alongside the announcement, the band shares “Kind of Girl I Am,” a brooding, gritty confessional centered on themes of perception and identity. Iazzetta’s vocals are snarky, vengeful, and powerful as she confronts the question: when a girl is made to be both the screen and the projector, how far can she push the performance before the illusion burns through? “Kind of Girl I Am” is about noticing the character people turn you into from afar and figuring out how to use it in your favor," Iazzetta shares.
With Pathetic, Trophy Wife make it clear exactly who they are—unapologetically raw, noisy, and urgent. "Kind of Girl I Am" is out 4/10. Pathetic is out July 24th via AWAL. Tickets for Trophy Wife live are on sale now. |
