Today, Homer – the Grammy-nominated renowned drummer, multi-instrumentalist and producer – shares “So Get Up!” featuring MINOVA and Michael Rault, the latest single from his debut album due November 15th via Big Crown Records, Ensatina. The song is an instant hit that shakes speakers and blurs genre lines. The heavy duty drums are no surprise from Homer, but it is his production prowess that puts it over the top. MINOVA’s vocals elegantly ride the toughness of the track with a euphoric dreaminess that balances the whole affair, and Homer’s innate gift for blending different energies is front and center on this track. “So Get Up!” follows Ensatina’s early singles: “Rollin’” featuring acclaimed soul singer KIRBY; and “Deep Sea (feat. Homer (aka Homer Steinweiss) has had a storied career in music that started when he was just a teenager. He's drummed for nearly every major modern soul group and his distinctive stickwork helped blend the raw-but-receptive soul sound back into the mainstream via the likes of Amy Winehouse and Sharon Jones. He’s now one of the most in demand drummers in the world, playing with the likes of Clairo, Solange, Adele, Silk Sonic and Bruno Mars, to name a few. Steinweiss is now stepping to the forefront as both musician and producer, and has announced his first solo album released under his Homer moniker. Ensatina is a reflection of who Homer is now and a testament to how struggle often brings about a needed change. Homer was dealing with considerable emotional turbulence; at the same time that his band Holy Hive broke up, a long term personal relationship also fell apart putting Homer in an uncertain place mentally. The fallout was significant enough for him to seek professional help. "I was going through these super manic highs and then very depressive lows," Homer describes. "And being in all that, it's just so tough to imagine that the other side is there, that it'll be ok." But, with time, professional help, and support from friends and family, Homer made it through and has been forever changed. This album is a product of that period of his life. Making this album was a refuge for Homer and it put him back on track. Ensatina is a glimpse into the different energies and influences that make Homer tick. To say he was always much more than a drummer would be an understatement, and this first solo offering is just the beginning of his next chapter. |
