Ottawa-Hull-based indie-rock band Pony Girl are masters of art pop, invigorating stages with a prismatic sound that’s all their own. Recipients of the Prix FEQ Emerging Artist Award in 2016 for their 'high level of innovation and musicality…exceptional performance quality and on-stage presence' as well as two Capital Music Awards wins for their 2022 album, Pony Girl has seen consistent praise from various media for their 'evocative soundscapes' (CBC Radio), their 'ability to push the boundaries that define pop-rock' (Mixtape Magazine), and a 'musical depth quite astonishing to experience' (Exclaim!).
After the release of their debut LP with Paper Bag Records (and third LP in general), Enny One Wil Love You, Pony Girl recently shared their newest LP with the label, Laff It Off, this past October. Following singles "I Believe In Nothing," "Laff It Off," "Highways," and "Wannabe," the record's arrival is further celebrated now with a brand new music video for the instrumental ambient track "Laura." The track is highlighted by saxophone and mood-setting etherial swells. In the video, the character is reliving a traumatic road accident.
As Pascal noted of the video: "I started working on this video before we recorded the song. Most of it was filmed in PEI in 2017. We finished it in Mountain Grove, Ontario in 2020. The video is based on the original version of the song, which was a folk song about a character reliving a traumatic road accident. We expanded that idea into an ambient cinematic track. Laura loved to drive. The rolling hills, the winding roads, and open fields. After a car accident, we get a glimpse of their day-to-day life. Scenes from the past, and memories, collide with the present. Laura now spends most of their time with Sara, a caregiver. The support is subtle, accompanying Laura in the mundane activities of daily living. A trip to the store, a quiet lunch, a sunset on the stoop." |
