Started in 1983 by Dayton, Ohio elementary school teacher Robert Pollard, Guided By Voices is celebrating the 40th anniversary of a surprising and extraordinary career. A legendary live band with a rabid following, Guided By Voices have toured on stages around the world, performed on national TV multiple times and been cited as an enormous influence on numerous bands both big and small. The New York Times has written “Music seems to come pouring out of some people: Mozart, the young Rossini, Paul McCartney, Prince and now Robert Pollard.”
To celebrate their 40th year, the band is hosting a 2-night celebration at Dayton Masonic Center (Dayton, OH), taking place Friday September 1 and Saturday September 2. Between the two nights, Dinosaur Jr, Built To Spill, Heartless Bastards, Wednesday, and Kiwi Jr will also perform. Tickets go on sale Friday, June 16 at 12pm EDT at GBV.com. In addition to these forthcoming shows, GBV's 39th album and second of 2023, Welshpool Frillies, hits stores on July 21, with another album scheduled for November.
