Of Arny Margret; “haunting vocals backed up by an intimate guitar” – Rolling Stone Of Júníus Meyvant; “full of luscious pop, romantic melodies and superb arrangements” – The Line Of Best Fit Arny Margret has teamed up with fellow Icelandic singer-songwriter Júníus Meyvant for their seasonal duet, ‘Spring’, out now via One Little Independent Records. The single’s airy acoustics and smooth harmonies highlight the talents of both artists while the back-and-forth narrative paints a picture of gently opening flower petals, dewy mornings and a broken love. Meyvant tells us that “the song is written as a conversation between two human beings in a numb state mentally and physically in their relationship but still they have burning love for each other in a different way and want to work it out. This is my first collaboration with an artist in my own musical writing. The collaboration couldn’t have gone smoother in my opinion. Arny Margret has a unique feel and beautiful tone in her voice and music and is full of life as a person. I am very happy our voices were drift compatible on this track. And I doubt this will be our last collaboration”. To which Arny responded, “I loved doing this collaboration with Júníus Meyvant, I’ve loved his music for years so this was kind of a dream come true for me. I’m so very happy with the outcome and I hope people will love it too”. Júníus Meyvant is the artist name of Westman Islands born singer-songwriter Unnar Gísli Sigurmundsson. NPR described his style as "soul-stirring melodies from way up north" in the same year that KEXP named his single ‘Color Decay’ as a ‘Song of the Day’. He released his 2016 debut ‘Floating Harmonies’ album through Record Records, an Icelandic label. In 2019 he finished the making of his sophomore album, ‘Across the Borders’, with musician and engineer Guðmundur Kristinn Jónsson (Erlend Oye, Ásgeir, Hjálmar) in Hljóðriti Studio. In 2022, his third album ‘Guru’ showcased the rawer side of his talent. Arny Margret has been making waves not only in her Icelandic hometown but across Europe and the US, touring extensively, supporting Leif Vollebekk, Passenger, Blake Mills, Ásgeir and more, as well as playing the likes of SXSW, Newport Folk Festival, Reykjavik Calling, and Iceland Airwaves. Her gorgeous debut album, ‘they only talk about the weather’ is out now on One Little Independent Records. She cites influences from the likes of Andy Shauf, Phoebe Bridgers, Bon Iver, Leif Vollebekk and Gregory Alan Isakov. Born and raised in a small town called Ísafjörður, she attended music school from the age of 6 learning to play the piano and gradually taught herself guitar. She recorded the album at studio Hljóðriti in Hafnarfjörður and continues to make her mark globally with her intimate and affecting live performances. Art credit: Guðm. Hafnfjörð Photo credit: Guðm.
