Today, dayaway (the dreamy indie-pop project of Amber Renee and Graham Marsh of CLAVVS) returns with their second gorgeous new single of the year, a track entitled "ocean blues." Opening with shimmering slide guitars and enveloped in lush instrumentation, "ocean blues" is a song concerned with forbidden desire.
As Amber wrote of the track:
"There is a pleasure in longing that I think is inherent to the female gaze. This song dives into the idea that longing can be enough. The ocean often represents love in my songwriting— it’s this vast, unknowable, mysterious thing. So to have the ocean blues is to be lovesick, to want someone that you just can’t have. 'ocean blues' is about letting it be enough to love from a distance, knowing you’ll never have more than that, and being satisfied in the wanting."
This new track follows dayaway's latest single release, "hot blue summer," an indie bop with hazy guitars, dusty drums, and the duo's signature hooky melodies.
Last year, dayaway shared their debut self-titled EP, preceded with hit singles such as "cool water" (which was featured on ABC's A Million Little Things and added to popular playlists across Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music). To date, the EP has achieved 5M+ streams across all platforms.
Stay tuned for more new music from dayaway, coming soon. |
