SAN FRANCISCO, CA (February 8, 2023) - Local organizers behind Noise Pop Festival, the San Francisco Bay Area’s premier independent music and arts festival, have just shared their alternative programming schedule for this year’s 30th anniversary celebration taking place on February 20-26. Weekend badges are on sale now, along with tickets to individual concerts, film screenings, and other events via www.noisepopfest.com.
Hosting one of the most diverse, genre-defying lineups this year, festival attendees can look forward to a wide range of incredible performances from iconic indie-rock darlings, up-and-coming acts, West Coast legends and dozens of Bay Area musicians. Highly anticipated sets by Yo La Tengo, STRFKR, Boy Harsher, Duster, and FIDLAR are set to rock the Bay Area alongside fan favorites Junglepussy, Spellling, No Vacation, Tommy Guerrero, and Bob Mould to name a few.
As a surprise last-minute music lineup addition, festival organizers have also partnered with the fellow Mission District-neighbor and iconic local venue Kilowatt to invite female-led garage-rock trio L.A. Witch to perform on back-to-back nights as the independently-owned dive bar and music venue reopens under new management. These incredibly rare festival performances on February 24 and again on February 25 will help to usher in a return of live music to Kilowatt following a fifteen year hiatus as the space had become a hotbed for the local music scene in the 1990s and early 2000s.
Plus, festival stalwart Phil Elverum will bring his Mount Eerie project back to Noise Pop Festival once again, having last played last year’s fest as part of The Microphones. Mount Eerie takes over Great American Music Hall with Oakland’s own Parallel opening on Tuesday, February 21 with tickets for all Noise Pop Festival concerts on sale now at www.noisepopfest.com.
In addition to the 100+ talented music artists participating in this coveted week of independent Bay Area culture, Noise Pop Festival has curated a full week of local arts and nightlife for fans to explore. Exciting features are to be uncovered throughout the city including an official pre-party at Cal Academy, daily happy hours at Bender’s, film screening premieres, and so much more.
Before the festival officially kicks off on February 20, the team has also organized several pre-fest events including the grand opening of the Noise Pop Gallery at the new Noise Pop offices in the Mission District featuring iconic concert photographs taken by the festival photographer team on February 9 with a second gallery party to be held on the 17th; as well as two back-to-back admission-free afternoon concerts presented by Sierra Nevada at Zeitgeist on both Saturday, February 18 and Sunday, February 19.
Noise Pop’s Official Festival Pre-Party also returns to Cal Academy NightLife from 6:00 to 10:00 on Thursday, February 16. Fans won’t want to miss the adults-only party, featuring unforgettable DJ sets from the likes of Noise Pop Festival alumni and Texas-born electro-popstar Neon Indian, plus DJ Brown Amy and Paige P.
The beloved local tradition of kicking off each festival day with Happy Hours at Bender’s Bar & Grill will return to offer free music performances and discounted drink specials beginning Tuesday, February 21 through Saturday, February 25. Presented by Fernet-Branca, each evening event will feature a different co-host including BFF.fm, DoTheBay, San Franpsycho, Talent Moat, Trixie Rasputin, Twin Peak Sessions, and Bender’s. Noise Pop’s famed film program will also return for the 2023 festival and is set to include a variety of music-based screenings and special guests from across the world. The schedule begins Wednesday, with festival headliner Boy Harsher debuting its short film “The Runner”. Fans can then spend Thursday night watching the comedy mockumentary “CB4” with Director Tamra Davis; while Friday includes the West Coast premiere of psychedelic rock revival film “The Elephant 6 Recording Co.” along with the 50th-anniversary of documentary “Wattstax”. Saturday wraps up with “The Flaming Lips Space Bubble Concert: Live in Oklahoma 2021” as well as “Free Tibet”, commemorating one of the largest benefit concerts of all time first held in San Francisco in 1996.
Bringing the busy week to a close, on Sunday afternoon Bottom of the Hill will host a celebration of the life and art of Noise Pop’s first official photographer, Peter Ellenby, with a classic lineup chock full of reunited old friends including Overwhelming Colorfast, Sgt. Major 6, Kingdom First, and Oranger.

All badges grant access to all general admission (non-reserved seating) music concerts, happy hours, after-hours, and film screening events throughout the weeklong festival, although fans are encouraged to act fast as limited quantities remain.

Over the course of a full week this coming February, Noise Pop Festival will once again transform the entire SF Bay Area each night into sprawling festival grounds with music concerts, art shows, film screenings, happy hours, and more taking place all across the city. Participating venues next February will once again include a number of historic concert halls and landmark venues like Great American Music Hall, Bottom of the Hill, The Chapel, Rickshaw Stop, The Regency Ballroom, August Hall, The New Parish, The Ivy Room, Public Works, and 1015 Folsom, among others.
