Today, Brooklyn based artist, Shalom, shares two debut singles “Bad To The Bone” and a cover of Glass Animals’ “Agnes” via Saddle Creek. Both songs are produced by Ryan Hemsworth, who also collaborated with Shalom on her debut album, slated to drop early 2023. The duo don't shy away from dramatic flair, welcoming the listener into their unique realm of visceral sounds and emotions. The combination of angsty, bass- led production and Shalom's ethereal tenor vocals create a captivating, otherworldly listen.

Speaking on “Bad To The Bone”, Shalom says, “Bad To The Bone was the last song Ryan and I wrote after 4 days of making songs nonstop -- it came out so easily and spontaneously that I didn’t really have time to think about it while it was happening. Thinking now, also after spending time with the song as a listener, the song is very special - it’s all about knowing something is bad for you and chasing it anyway. because sometimes you weigh risk and reward…and the risk is the reward.”

Speaking on “Agnes”, Shalom shares, “Agnes remains one of my favorite Glass Animals songs, and this cover is so dear to me because I feel like it really considers the character. This cover focuses on Agnes herself - the bass led direction of the song gives me room to think about her, and her decisions and her pain. and I love that you can feel how bad she’s hurting from hearing my retelling of it. Long live Agnes.”

Born in Maryland, raised in South Africa, and now residing in Brooklyn, Shalom’s musical journey has been an unconventional one. After experimenting in bands within the New Brunswick DIY scene (where she attended university) Shalom continued to push the boundaries of her songwriting, pulling from her experience as a first-generation woman of color, and a college student in a predominately white space. In 2021, Shalom connected with producer Ryan Hemsworth over Instagram to work on his project Quarter-Life Crisis and later signed with the seminal label, Saddle Creek. The pair hit it off and began a year-long collaboration via Zoom making music together and ultimately creating an extensive body of work that will soon be released. “Bad To The Bone” and “Agnes” are the first tastes of the duo’s collaboration and sets the tone for what’s to come. Shalom will perform her debut new songs and a preview of new musician Friday, June 17 at Rubulad in Bushwick at 7 pm EST.
