Today, acclaimed Berlin-based musician, sound artist, performer, and composer, Lucrecia Dalt announces her eighth solo album ¡Ay!, out October 14, 2022 via RVNG Intl., marking her third for the label. Musically, ¡Ay! is unlike anything Lucrecia has ever recorded. On it, she conjures a new realm where the tropical bolero, salsa, and merengue music of her childhood in Colombia meld with her signature experimental sci-fi-inspired storytelling and production. The album follows her recent lauded scores for HBO series The Baby and body horror feature filmThe Seed

Sometime after the release of her 2020 album No era sólida, , Lucrecia found herself revisiting the memory of music from her childhood. ¡Ay! hears her meet that impulse with a maximalist force unheard on her previous releases. She and collaborator Alex Rodriguez Lázaro composed rich, serpentine live percussion of congas, bongos and timbales as well as woodwinds that are tuned to dance among Lucrecia’s lucid vocal processions and levitational synth work. Lucrecia’s voice takes on a new role here as well, brought forward to the focus of the mix, and the lyrics of which are sung in Spanish for the first time since 2013’s Syzygy

To celebrate the album’s announcement, Lucrecia explores weightlessness on new single “No tiempo” and its accompanying music video co-starring Alex. It was created by Aina Climent and Lucrecia with cinematography by AINA and a script written by Lucrecia. The video was filmed on Galatzó Mountain in Spain and the mountain serves as namesake to another song on the album. The surrealist video centers the rich sci-fi story of the album’s lyrics.

¡Ay! will be available on digital, vinyl and CD formats on October 14.

Lucrecia’s former career as a geotechnical engineer signaled an early ability to dig deep into the multidimensional worlds of cinema, fiction, astrophysics and desire, manifesting in the conceptual contours dating back to her 2005 debut Acerca. Her solo music has earned widespread international acclaim from publications such as DAZED, The Wire, Pitchfork, The Guardian, Resident Advisor, FACT, BBC Radio, CRACK, SPEX, NTS and more. In her work for screen, Dalt composed the original scores for the films Catábasis (dir. Regina de Miguel) and The Seed (dir. Sam Walker) in 2021, as well as the aforementioned The Baby score, which was released by Invada Records and RVNG Intl. in 2022. She has also collaborated with artists including Aaron Dilloway, Jan Jelinek, Camille Mandoki, and Gudrun Gut, among others.
