"Sportswear sees the band spinning out in new and exciting directions, moving effortlessly between styles and genres with each track [...] By its end, it feels like it’s operating on a new level of creative vision, far surpassing anything the band have attempted before."
Under the Radar

"A pop-tinged dreamy number [...] the airy track features an open groove, lush production, a bouncy bassline as well as plenty of vocal harmonies."
Rolling Stone India

"A digitized dreamscape of vintage pop sounds sifted through synth, backlit by technicolor dance grooves, soaring effortlessly on an airy eleven tracks, far enough from their origins in 2015 to immediately grab attention"
Nanobot Rock

"Evolving their sound since the more guitar-heavy, punk musings of their 2015 debut, this iteration of Hot Flash Heat Wave is more refined, pulling more alternative sound patterns from the ’80s. “Bay Boys” is one snapshot, a collage of their imaginations, and all the strange sights dancing around their heads, and plastered into the 11 tracks of Sportswear."
American Songwriter

"The track is a deep and new wave-inspired pop-rock work fueled by jangly guitar riffs and captivating synth lines that backdrop a song that explores and reflects on unfulfillment and personal existential struggles."
Ones To Watch

"CREATING AUTHENTICITY THROUGH SYNTHETIC SOUND IS DIFFICULT - but for Hot Flash Heat Wave, it’s a walk in the park. The vibrancy of their new video “m o t i o n s” cannot be denied and is proof that the band is pushing themselves more and more with their visuals and instrumentals."
The Luna Collective

"'Where I'm @' is a quintessential throwback vibe that flirts with futuristic experimentation. Equal parts chill and playful, this track whisks you away to a carefree plane of existence."
Ones to Watch

"With hazy synths and silky vocals, the track feels like it’s made to soundtrack a drive in the sun."
Indie88

"A flurry of thick ’80s new wave guitar and anxious drums."
FLOOD

"A dazzling exhibition of the bands more existential songwriting capabilities. This latest single features evocative moments of profound tranquility that feature dense synths and an untamable funk-laden bassline."
EARMILK

"Danceable instrumental grooves, lush washes of synths, and robotic vocoder vocals join into the mix, offering an irresistible pop edge that’s tailor-made for summer nights."
Under The Radar

"Merging the quintessential melodies of pop’s past with contemporary touches to forge something truly unique, Hot Flash Heat Wave is just starting to create their own sonic world."
Rock Your Lyrics

"With a rhythmic verse and a chorus that sounds like Abildgaard singing over a roomful of computers crunching numbers, the song often resembles a 1990s vision of music in the year 2020: androgynous cyborg rock built on warez and Encarta CD-ROMs."
SF Weekly

Today, San Francisco-based indie trio Hot Flash Heat Wave share their brand new album, Sportswear. With their new sound, they've merged the quintessential melodies of pop's past with contemporary touches to forge something truly unique. Hot Flash Heat Wave is just starting to create their own sonic world.

Speaking on their new album, Ted Davis wrote:

"Sportswear is a world of its own, a vision that encompasses not just music, but art, storytelling and fashion as well. Sonically we felt drawn to elements from early goth, new wave, and house, taking them through our filter of indie, psychedelia, r&b and modern pop. We were also inspired by the style and hyper-individualism of late 90s club culture and anime. The name Sportswear is a cheeky nod to this tapestry of influences and the disambiguation of trends and subculture, as they become commodified for mass appeal and lose their deeper meaning. Lyrically the record speaks to our personal life struggles and soul searchings as well as existential sensations and narrations."

Hot Flash Heat Wave are currently on the Sportswear World Tour, including shows across North America, the United Kingdom, and Europe (their shows in the UK/EU were postponed to August and September 2022). Tickets are on sale now.
