Lady Blackbird today shares ‘Lost and Looking (Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy Cosmodelica Remix)’ via Foundation Music/BMG. Having remixed the likes of dance music legends Chaka Khan and Róisín Murphy, DJ and radio host Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy has now added her trademark psychedelic disco flair to Lady Blackbird’s sparse yet soulful take on Sam Cooke’s 1963 classic, reworking it into a retrofuturistic floorfiller. Bursting with celestial grooves, the dazzling remix is set to be played by Chris Hawkins on BBC Radio 6Music upon release. On top of the remix, Lady Blackbird announces that the vinyl version of her debut album is coming out on Friday, January 28.
With a voice that has stopped critics in their tracks, Lady Blackbird is a revelatory new talent with music that transcends the jazz scene through which the LA-based artist is rooted. Reflecting influences as varied as Billie Holiday, Gladys Knight, Tina Turner and Chaka Khan, with critics drawing comparisons to Adele, Amy Winehouse, Grace Jones and Celeste, Lady Blackbird’s distinct and beguiling talent is not one to be missed.
2021 was a landmark year for the artist, which saw her release her debut album Black Acid Soul. The album produced by Chris Seefried (who co-produced Andra Day’s Grammy nominated album Cheers To The Fall), garnered much critical claim with The Sunday Times in London naming her their Breaking Act and stating that she “brings a singing voice of extraordinary nuance and immaculate phrasing to a selection of covers/reworkings and pindrop originals” in a 4* review. She performed an unmissable rendition of ‘It’s Not That Easy’ on Later… with Jools Holland.
