Dean Wareham has released his new albumI Have Nothing to Say to the Mayor of L.A via Double Feature Records. The LP marks Wareham’s first singer/songwriter-style new material in almost seven years, but it’s also some of the strongest of his career, which stretches back to the late 1980s, when his group Galaxie 500 changed the face of what we now know as indie rock. You can feel the lineage of that period on the album, particularly in Wareham’s inimitable vocals. The album was recorded at Panoramic House in Stinson Beach with producer Jason Quever (Beach House, Cass McCombs) and a tried and true duo of collaborators: his wife and bandmate in both Luna and Dean & Britta, Britta Phillips on bass, vocals, and keys, and Roger Brogan on drums. Quever also plays considerably on the album across a variety of instruments.
Leading the release Dean shared the album singles “As Much As It Was Worth It” , “Cashing In” and “The Past Is Our Plaything.” The singles were picked up by among others, Pitchfork, ETonline,Austin Town Hall, andUnder The Radar. Brooklyn Vegan picked I Have Nothing To Say To The Mayor Of LA as their album of the week, Stereogum listed itIas an album of note andPaste included the LP in their notable releases for October 15 list. The UK’s Uncut picked it as their “Album Of The Month,” giving it a 9/10 rating.
