POP, ALONG WITH SINGER CYNTHIA SLEY AND GUITARIST PAT PLACE, WOULD FORM BUSH TETRAS IN 1979, WHO WOULD EARN THEIR PLACE IN THE DOWNTOWN NO WAVE MUSIC LINEAGE OF THE EARLY ‘80S ALONGSIDE CONTEMPORARIES SONIC YOUTH, LYDIA LUNCH AND MORE. – EARS TO FEEDBush Tetras and Wharf Cat Records were shocked and saddened by the news that the legendary Dee Pop, Bush Tetras' drummer since 1979, passed away in his sleep last Friday night. We join the many people Dee Pop touched throughout his life, the musicians he played with and influenced, and his friends and family in mourning the loss of our good friend. It's a testament to Tetras' strength and longevity that founding members Pat Place and Cynthia Sley have decided to continue to promote Rhythm and Paranoia: The Best of Bush Tetras approaching its November 12th release, inclusive of a performance in support of the project at New York City’s LPR on 11/13. Continuing on is exactly what Dee would have wanted – he loved Bush Tetras and was an integral part of Rhythm and Paranoia's conception and genesis. Importantly, Dee maintained an archive of the band's recordings, including those which appear on the career-spanning collection. He also provided several flyers and photos for the book that comes with the LP and CD box sets. Today’s premiere by Ears to Feed is of a track from Dee's archives and one that was close to his heart. It's an unreleased alternate version of "Mr. Love Song," recorded during the sessions for Bush Tetras’ 1997 album, Beauty Lies, which was produced by R&B legend Nona Hendryx. What distinguishes the alternate version from the one used on Beauty Lies is the addition of vibrant backing vocals by Nona Hendryx and Grammy-winning vocalist Darlene Love, both pictured below during the recording of the track (with Cynthia Sley of Bush Tetras). Follow the links below to stream “Mr. Lovesong,” pre-order a copy of Rhythm and Paranoia: The Best of Bush Tetras, purchase tickets to the release show on November 13th at Le Poisson Rouge, and read more about the inimitable Dee Pop. RIP Dee: post-punk legend, community fixture, and lifelong student & teacher of the drums. Rhythm and Paranoia: The Best of Bush Tetras will be released on November 12th, 2021. Available on Vinyl and CD. Full details of each format below. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
